Wakefield are getting 10 Gemini 2’s from Arriva north east ( 13 regs ) with 10 of the 61 reg batch going in the opposite direction. The one pictured at Wakefield is maxed for one of their routes up there

Any ideas on the business reasons for this? I'm thinking, the 61 reg Geminis at Wakefield are the only ones in original paintwork and are ready for doing. They all seem to go up to the North East for repainting at a specialist firm these days, rather than being done at Belle Isle or Dewsbury.

I think the new batch ( which are Volvo’s ) are for route 444 and the hybrids are going on 425 route. The ones leaving Wakefield are the un branded Gemini’s what they got from Heckmondwike last year . The reason for the swap... can only presume they wanted to max the 444 and this batch are already maxed !

Thanks Mutty. Makes sense, although I thought the Max brand was being phased out, given it doesn't feature in the new livery set. 202/3 has often been a non max vehicle recently.
I'm not sure how many Geminis went from Heckmondwike to Belle Isle last year but 1529-34 were already there - are they not in the 10?
One of the Geminis that came from Heckmondwike (1544 I think) was Sapphired up for 110,so I expected that will stay.

The swaps are a lot to do with the forthcoming low emission zone that Leeds City council are proposing and not just about maxing services
Sent from Samsung S7 by Penfold on the road.

Thanks for explanations folks. Wondered if it was something to do with Leeds Clean Air Zone.
When hybrids moved to BI I had expected them to be used exclusively on Leeds services (444/6,1/217 and 481). It's rare to see them on latter two services, which usually seem to be VDL Gemini or Darwen operated. I had only expected this given that Leeds CC it the most congested part of the operating region so probably number one target for hybrids until all vehicles are of super clean emission standards. It's been nice to see the hybrids heavily used on 425/7 given the fine stone buildings in Bradford CC which are very susceptible to pollution damage.

Leeds City Council's 'Connecting Leeds' for the low emission zone has five corridors, one of which runs in from Hunslet which takes in buses from Castleford, Pontefract and Wakefield, but why hybrids only for the 444 when other routes venture in to Leeds via this area?
Services from the Dewsbury and Heckmondwike areas are not in one of the corridors so I assume there will be no hybrids at those two garages in the near future.

You are confusing two different schemes, the low emission zone, is not part of the Connecting Leeds project and supposedly covers the entire city. The key corridors are those which they will concentrate on for bus priority investment and the like. In any case hybrid buses are not required as obviously the new buses First are buying are not hybrids.
