I know the vehicles on school runs dnt hav to be dda but surely Transdev could pick up some slightly newer deckers from somewhere. The old olympians really have seen better days and really do need replacing they look terrible.

Do you mean by terrible you mean reliable? Because presidents are a lot less reliable than them

Yawn, here we go again.... ?? Because its already been discussed at length in the fleet changes thread where there is also a comment of a number of Presidents having been acquired from Scotland for this very purpose. The latest WYIS list has them as V36 MOA V69 MOA V74 MOA W118 DOP W119 DOP and W412DOE

I care about it being discussed twice.
I also think WYB was referring to how often the ageing Transdev deckers have been discussed, not the second hand purchases.

One thing I haven't mentioned I'd Transdevs habit of leasing part of the fleet which leads to the polarisation that exists now with very new and very old buses and nothing on between.
Had Transdev bought LFDDs off lease they wouldn't now have to search for mid life LFDDs for school. They've bought six but need another twenty-five.

I honestly don't get the problem with still using Olympians on school work.
If it's a closed contract, the company will know that all the kids boarding will be able bodied, so won't require a wheelchair accessible bus and let's face it, loads of them go upstairs, so an extra one or two steps to get on in the first place isn't a big deal.

The leasing of vehicles seems to largely relate to orders placed when Giles Fearnley was looking to sell Blazefield and obviously not wanting to commit too much expenditure.

Leasing makes perfect sense when you are a relatively small group with limited scope to cascade buses, especially ones to a high specification like the 36 and Coastliner DDs.

I do see a problem- Transdev is a MULTI-NATIONAL company, not a small time operator and they should be setting a better example by retiring ALL Leyland/Volvo Olympians and Dennis Javelins which are 19-28 years old. These vehicles cannot go on forever. Would the managers of Transdev drive THEIR children around in an Audi Quattro from the eighties? I doubt it!

Yawn. This is getting tiresome.
Given the acquisition of the Presidents from Scotland I would expect some changes after the summer break but crucially there do not seem to any parents/schools/pupils complaining about the current vehicles - just because they are old does not mean they are unsuitable. A well maintained vehicle such as Transdevs are, will last a lot longer these days as corrosion issues are a lot less problematic than they use to be.

Article in this weeks Coach & Bus Weekly states that all vehicle acquired since 2006 have been leased. This could explain why some have been withdrawn so early. I rode an 07-reg former Spot On Eclipse with Rosso in February.

Have we missed fact that up until last year, First & Stagecoach were operating step entrance deckers in day to day service?
