I assume Arriva plan their timetables though as theirs run differently than the others do, they have gaps in around lunchtime to allow drivers to have a break. I presume First operate like a normal day with driver changeovers and two duties per bus. I assume Arriva have one driver staying in their bus all day.
Passengers having to run into the road to flag down a bus coming the wrong way, that's if they even notice it coming the wrong way, isn't a good experience.

And I've seen Black Princes Optare Vecta 73 M73VYG on the X49 doing Leeds - Morley runs. I did see the Optare Prisma Yesterday on the special X51 service. This suggests that the usual DDA guidelines were suspended for Boxing Day only.

Primarily it is intended to allow heritage vehicles to be used occasionally though it does allow a bit of emergency use from older vehicles anyway.

This limited flexibility is sensible, especially for free services where the company cannot even rely on fare-paying passengers.

I do know, that the Black Prince free service, didn't carry too many passengers, despite even Metro advertising it.
