Not good is the increased price of the Plus Zone 12 journey ticket, obviously to cover its extended area but now makes a saving of £3.20 rather than £4.70 on 12 £2.10 singles in Harrogate while now costing £2.80 more than 6 £3.20 returns (currently admittably costs £1.30 more). If they want to decrease cash handling then a Harrogate town 12 journey ticket at around £18 ( or indeed £13 as per the weekly ticket) would be I suspect very attractive to many users who use the bus on an irregular basis such that the weekly ticket is not appropriate for them.

Are the 12 Journey tickets popular? They don't seem to be marketed very prominently so wondering if many non users know about them? I do like the idea of encouraging people to buy off bus, as well as speeding up boarding times it takes pressure off drivers a little. Perhaps offering discounts to season tickets purchased online / through the app would be a good way to convert people

Although I agree with boarding times needing to be speeded up, I wouldn't go down the route of smartphone discounts as that effectively discriminates against people who don't use smart phones for various reasons, including security mistrust which is my reason. I think more off bus sales could be achieved through pay point outlets like Arriva do, especially if located in convenient places like Leeds bus station, on high streets etc. As a word of warning, contactless was supposed to be safe, then along came a dangerous app what could read cards from inside a person's pocket, now a wallet has been invented what blocks this app but how long before criminals think of a way of bypassing this wallet? It's the same as chip and pin, supposedly safe but soon conquered by criminals mimicking chip and pin devices! Bus companies shouldn't go down the road of forcing people to pay by phone.

It's the same as chip and pin, supposedly safe but soon conquered by criminals mimicking chip and pin devices! Bus companies shouldn't go down the road of forcing people to pay by phone. It's not about forcing people to go down one route of payment, unless you are London and have complete control over who operates anything anywhere, but offering a mix of choices which you hope meet everyones needs. If some of those options are better for yourself as an operator (reduced cost/admin/time etc) then it is only logical that you pass part of that advantage on to your customers through a reduced price for that mode. The problem with paper based multi trip tickets is fraud, either deliberate or accidental by either the driver or customer, which means that there are revenue issues with them. When we offered them you could almost guarantee that more than one driver during the period of use would not bother to clip them leading to extra free journeys being allowed but we were able to re-introduce them with smartcards as this removed the interaction and they also seem to be more popular in this form (possibly the simple smartcard is seen as easier to carry & look after for the customer so makes the product more attractive).
