Even though Yorkshire tiger was fined nearly £22000 I find it amazing how buses are continuing to run early and late. In the past week I've noticed 3 of tigers routes and there only the routes I've travelled on and they were the 1710 737 turned up at 1740 on Wednesday the 526 today Sunday 1057 turned up at 1051! And the 526 1235 turned up at 1246!

My father in law reports he regularly has to wait 40 minutes or more for a bus on the 22 to Claremount, most recently yesterday. On a route that's every 20 minutes (cut from every 15 to improve reliability) that's poor.

You expect a fine to remove late running entirely? Good luck with that.
Regarding early running, is your stop a timing point?

That's the problem, westyorkshirebus, they look at Metro's timetable case, at the stops, and think EVERY stop is a timing point. Most won't even look at the paper timetable booklet.

It is poor I agree with you on that. Regarding roadworks and driver change over etc that still no excuse for a bus to run over 30 mins late! And the roadworks I went through on the 737 wasn't causing any traffic issues. People used to pull Yorkshire traction to bits but they were a hell of a lot better than tiger!

You have a bus that is, even a few minutes late for its changeover, the new driver can make the time back. But the old Driver might need his break and so the bus he is taking on (could be a conpletely diff route) waits empty for him to come off it. The bus I was on this morning was bang on time to my stop. But by the time we had hit LCC, the knock on of the bus in front missing had taken its toll and it was 15mins late and the 1 behind 7mins late. As a bus driver/operator, there is no winning. Bus late = either running empty to make time up or running late = complaints. Joe public expect a bus to turn up to the timetable (most of which are out of date). They don't care for traffic, Driver sickness, breakdowns, unruly passengers, idiots with £1 in 5pence pieces, weekly pass purchasers, pushchairs, wheelchairs, bin lorries, they just want their bus there when they're standing at the stop.

Anybody who commutes in the rush hour, by road, either car or bus, will know that traffic can vary greatly from one day to the next for no apparent reason.
Some days I can have a good clear run, other days there are long queues with nothing seemingly causing it. Some times the delays are near home, some times they are near work.
Starting every journey on time is probably more of a realistic aim than being on time throughout the journey.
