Yorkshire Tiger appears before DTC at PI over punctuality issues; decision to be announced at a later date Arriva subsidiary Yorkshire Tiger has to wait to see what action, if any, Deputy Traffic Commissioner (DTC) Tony Secular is to take over reliability figures in the 80s on its local services. ‘Considerable investment had been made into improving punctuality’ The company, of Lowfields Business Park, Elland, with a 145-vehicle licence, had been called before the DTC at a Leeds Public Inquiry (PI). He was also considering the repute of former Transport Manager (TM), Stephen Ottley. www.route-one.net/articles/Yorkshire_Tiger_at_PIAt the outset the DTC said that the main issue was the failure to operate local services in accordance with the registered timetables. For the company, Andrew Banks said that in relation to the Idle Operating Centre it was not appreciated that when the application for its use was made in May it could not be used immediately. When he advised the company it stopped using Idle, however the application for its use had subsequently been granted. Traffic Examiner and BOAM Officer Joanna Batley said that in May and June 2014, two services were monitored showing a compliance rate of 63%. The company’s response showed that compliance rates had improved to between 80% and 86.5%

I can assure you that Mr Ottley is still happily working for the company that he left Tiger to join, back in January. Incidentally, the PI also found that Mr Ottley was of 'good repute', so I'd advise you to be very careful what you write on such forums, especially when you clearly have no knowledge of any facts!

I've just read and seen the verdict, and shall immediately delete my previous comment, relating to Mr Ottley's employment. I apologise for my misunderstanding of his situation.

what I found very surprising, given that Arriva was the parent company, was the lack of support offered in times of crisis, e.g. providing sufficient buses in Jan. Incidentally, was anyone ever charged or even questioned about the alleged arson attack? I think it was disappointing that Arriva did not step in to fulfil the school services commitment to the end of the term in July 2016. It was my understanding that when Yorkshire Tiger were awarded these contracts that they were given a near perfect Quality Score in the tender bid solely because Arriva, the parent company, were their back stop? From my perspective as a Leeds operator, Arriva and Yorkshire Tiger clearly thought they could do as they wished. To have been called to a PI would have been a surprise I am sure. With regard to any action against the TM, would it have been appropriate and fair to have him as the fall guy? I know that a lot more went on at Yorkshire Tiger than will ever come to light, and with those critical of this organisation being told to be wary of making the wrong comments, discussion is stifled. The fine and the formal warning it could be argued, can be shrugged off, however the embarrassment lingers. It will be interesting to see the changes at Yorkshire Tiger that will now take place.

as far as I am aware, the fire was caused by one of the ex Arriva decker's electrics shorting out due to the flood water, which started the blaze. But of course, i am open to correction. Seems to be a good idea from Arriva, getting one of their subsidiarys to win tenders and saying they can get full backing from the parent company so that they can earn extra money, but then not doing so which proves as a disadvantage for the passengers and staff who have to suffer from some buses which are now elderly low floor stock from other subsidiaries. (e.g: the deckers from Selby which were deemed life expired at an Arriva Yorkshire standard), which of course leads to cancellations and heavy delays due to reliability issues. Lets hope the parent company get their act together with this one.
