Yesterday when traveling along Hunslet Road into Leeds on the 110 services, I came across some bus shelter adverts for the 410 service informing passers by about the fact it goes to Xscape/J32 Outlet.
It also says that OAPs can go for free with their passes. Is this a new era for Arriva Yorkshire with new management who are trying to promote their services.

Would it be possible to tell us any of his ideas as long as it doesn't put your job at risk please...

I can't go into detail because he didn't tell us individual ideas but he looks alot younger than I thought he would be and just talking to him gave me anyway a real sense that this guy knows what he is talking about and knows how to take Arriva Yorkshire forward. I'm sorry I can't give you more but really he was only there to look around the depot and meet the management so he wouldn't go into alot of detail but you just get a feeling with people and he's a good un as they say.
Also don't forget this is only his first week in the job.

Lets just hope that things will finally be on the up for Arriva Yorkshire. I'm sure there's potential for a successful quality operator somewhere in the mess that the West Riding Group has become.

Given the increased/ increasing number of people who commute into Leeds from other parts of West Yorkshire, there's no reason Arriva can't be a sucess.
My old local company (Fife Scottish) used to run two buses an hour into Edinburgh. Since being taken over by Stagecoach (1991 ish) they now run eleven buses an hour (including leather seated ones with wifi).
One of Arriva's problems is that (whilst the main roads into Leeds can justify Overground frequencies) the services often tail off further out, or split, meaning passengers need to remember three or four different numbers for the same basic route into town (something First were keen to stop with their Overground).
Given the large investment in (the basket case formerly known as Tracky) Stagecoach in Yorkshire, Arriva must surely be able to generate similar profit margins to invest in new buses and simplify things.

I have a feeling that the 410 will be one of the next routes to be updated. In the past couple of years the 202/203 has received the Lowlanders and recently the 110 has upgraded to the B9TLs. 'Connecting the Five Towns' would be a good branding for it, as it interworks with the 189. As for the fleet, Enviro400s would be pretty good.

In all seriousness, this is a welcome development as services to the J32 Outlet have been seriously under-promoted in the past - looking at how many passengers it attracts, it's a surprise that it's taken this long for anything to appear with regard to the 410 route (which is in fact a good, fairly direct service from Leeds to J32). Let's hope that the Cas-Ponte-Chequerfield routes are next on the agenda for an upgrade or some kind of marketing at least! Would seem that Warrington's loss could well be Yorkshire's gain...

As I understand it there was, at one point, an intention to brand some of the interurban-liveried ALX400s for the Wakefield-Cas and Leeds-Ponte routes (possibly a combined branding due to the 189/410 interworking at Leeds). However, this would appear to have been shelved/abandoned - not least since the repaint programme of the ALX400s seems to have stopped...

Wouldn't of most of the ALX400s been branded for the 163/166 routes as that is where most of the buses are allocated to. Then what is left is usually put on the 184/189 and 410 interworkings.

I think we will be seeing a few more ALX300s in the interurban livery as they are having to get their rear body work replaced again!!!

As I understand it the daytime 163/166 now operates with only 10 buses, leaving Castleford another 10 to play around with. At any one time it's likely to find a good half dozen without guidewheels, though it seems to be fairly fluid as to which ones these are.

i have heard that arriva has not got there full alocation for yorkshire (wakefield) and they are to get new buses for the 110 to replace the new darwin olympuss they may end up on this route

If this is the case, the Darwen Olympus should go to Dewsbury for the 202/203 routes as these long routes would suit leather seated buses. The East Lancs Lowlanders should go to Wakefield for the 110 service and Castleford could get some new Enviro 400s for the 163/166/189/410 routes, allowing some of the Volvo B10Bs to be phased out of the fleet.

The Lowlanders would be better going elsewhere wouldn't you think if the B9TLs went onto the 202/203. I'm sure the PVR of the 110 is more than sixteen. So there wouldn't be enough Lowlanders to man the 110.
Anyhow, Ben who told you about yet more new buses for the 110?

I suppose if there aren't enough Lowlanders for the 110, then perhaps the Lowlanders at Castleford and new B9TL Eclipse Geminis or VDL DB250 Pulsar Geminis for the 110.

Well I can rule out the Pulsar Geminis as VDL haven't got around to producing a Euro IV decker chassis.
Hmmm, what route in mind do you intend on sticking the Lowlanders if they were to go to Castleford? As will it be possible for guide arms and cut outs to be retrofitted to the Lowlanders' front axles for use on the 163/166?

I'm sure if the 14 Lowlanders went to Wakefield for the 110 there would be enough buses to manage as they Could always stick a couple of Commanders on to make up the numbers. The newest Lowlanders I've seen in the Arriva fleet are 57-plates at Arriva North East, but doubt there's any chance of Wakefield getting their hands on any of them just yet! Slight mistake previously as I didn't realise production of the DB250 Pulsar Gemini had stopped.
