Morning all. Just to let people know, the February issue of Buses magazine has a 4-page article about South Pennine Community Transport, with photos. Quite an interesting read.

South Pennine are set to expand their operation even further as they have gained the contract for the new Sheffield Connect service, basically a city centre circular running every 10 mins with 2 buses. This starts on August 1st.

I've seen an ad for new drivers and their pay rates seemed very generous for after 7pm at £20.20 per hour, I initially thought surely they can't afford this but having looked at the timetables the only route operating after 7pm is the 341, and that's only a couple of journeys meaning the driver will be back in the depot for 9pm lol. Sunday rates are also very good as well at £14 per hour.

What buses do they use on the Huddersfield local runs? Hope it's not Ford Transits?

Apparently South Pennine have brought a brand new low floor EVM Sprinter vehicle and it was spotted 2 days ago doing one of the South Yorkshire routes.

Update South Pennine now own another 22 plate EVM Sprinter low floor minibus as well as an Optare Versa which is currently in the paint shop receiving the red and white new South Pennine livery and believed to be running routes in South Yorkshire maybe stuff like the Penistone 25 and 26.

The Mercedes minibuses are RX22SFN and RX22SFY
They aren’t new though, they’ve been purchased second hand

South Pennine will soon be expanding further into South Yorkshire with tender gains on the 181 Sheffield to Dore, the 23/4 group in Penistone as well as the 29 Holmfirth to Sheffield service and one or two other routes.

The 29 shocked me. TM Travel has ran that for years. Didn't even know it was contracted.

Just noticed that South Pennine have re-organised their timetable page into areas, not sure it really works as there are several services which cross over into another area such as the HX3 which is listed under the Calderdale area, but not under Holmfirth/Colne Valley. They could be missing out on custom for those from Holmfirth looking at where they can go. Another example is the 26A listed under South Yorkshire, but not Holmfirth. Again a missed opportunity to attract custom from Holmfirth, which is actually the main area this bus serves in effect bearing in mind all the outbound journeys offering much longer at places such as Fox Valley.

Noted a dark green Wright Eclipse along Woodhead Road this morning with southpennine on the displays. Is this another recent acquisition?

Perhaps they're taking a leaf out of First's book. If you look at the Leeds section of their website you won't find the 72 or the 508.
