Could be a week old, but just came across it by accident The world's first fully electric double-decker bus was today unveiled a month before it goes into service on London's roads. Transport bosses gathered outside City Hall for a first look at the large red vehicle, which is expected to cost in excess of £350,000. The near-silent bus is the latest addition to Transport for London's fleet since the launch of the New Bus for London, Routemaster revivals that were criticised for being too hot in summer months because the windows did not open. The new model features windows and lacks the hop-on, hop-off access of the New Bus. Transport for London (TfL) director of surface transport Leon Daniels said: "Lessons have been learned, like with every new model." www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/worlds-first-electric-doubledecker-bus-ready-to-hit-londons-roads-a3204151.htmlHe refused to be drawn on a price tag for the vehicle but confirmed it would cost more than the new Routemasters which are worth £350,000 each. Engineers claim the new bus will be able to travel 180 miles on one charge, meaning the vehicles will be able to remain in service all day without stopping to reboot. TfL said the first will start running on route 98 between Willesden and Holborn, with five being rolled out from April as part of a pilot project. Mr Daniels added: "The principle driver behind this is air quality.

It's a BYD integral, it was first shown at the Kortirijk Bus Show last autumn but this is the official London launch of the vehicle. BYD is short for Build Your Dreams who are a Chinese Battery manufacturer who branched out into producing products that use batteries to drive their market. They have just launched a battery coach in Paris aimed at the city based tourist market, they will also be supplying the base for the new ADL bodied Red Arrow buses for London.

Wont be long before driverless buses arrive for trials. The first driverless HGV's are scheduled for test's on the M6 northbound anytime soon. Looks like the future is happening now.
