Erm... What about the 10 new buses for Keighley mentioned two posts up from yours?? It's great that we're finally getting some new buses but how long has it been since a large fleet overhaul? I would have thought that the 760 is their most profitable/ most used route (possibly along with the 662). It is much more well used than the Harrogate 36, yet they get brand new buses, run every 15 minutes with luxury seats and wifi. We get old presidents with different interiors and no wifi. The 760 should currently be every half an hour (often up to 40 - 50 minutes at peak periods!) not to mention it always running at least 10 minutes late. In my opinion it should be at least every 20 minutes with decent gemini's. Nevermind though, the 36 needs new buses! The current gemini's aren't luxurious enough! Sadly the 760 isn't as profitable as you believe. The investment is focussed where we get the best return. It's what you do in business. I have a plan for every single route in the portfolio, but we have to prioritise for maximum customer benefit. That includes allocating the former 36 buses where we believe we'd get the best results.

New buses are 6 x solo's for town services, to replace darts, 4 versa's for skiptons. Been informed some of the 450 batch are getting refurbished for the Harrogate service. Also I hear no ex 36 gemini's are coming here, more than likely will go to Lancashire to release more presidents for Keighley instead. Is this correct as neither 4 would be enough for Skipton or 6 enough for town work?

Great that you joined the forum Alex! I appreciate that the 36 and coastliners may be more profitable and run longer/ faster routes, but the general service with 760 (especially on a morning) is not the best. The timetable is all wrong, We haven't even got Wi-fi! haha. Also I know that the new buses (2717 and 2718) from york will be going on schools in the future, but they are dreadful on the inside, they bring the Transdev standards right down. But I'm Looking forward to your plans in future... At least it's not First Leeds running it! Cheers, WYBS

If Keighley are receiving 4 Solos does that mean some of the Darts are staying? Or will the likes of 702/703/706 be converted to B10?

I just hope we don't get more Presidents. They don't show the company in a good light. I've yet to see one that doesn't churn out a cloud of black smoke under acceleration.

Cheers, WYBS Sadly investment in the fleet has been very low before Alex took over, and looks like he will have an even larger headache in the new year with at least 40 non dda double deck to replace across the group. Expect more like 2717/8 in the short term as the 760 with its traffic problems & route duplication keighley to saltaire meaning the route is not worth £millions of investment. In whole you can see the keighley fleet is improving and sure Alex will transform the operation, just give him a couple of years to catch up, look how well respected Trent Barton is though I'm sure when he joined them the fleet wasn't so old!

One thing that always surprised me is how little cascading of vehicles went on between London Sovereign (Blazefield then Transdev owned until being sold to RATP in 2014) and the Yorkshire fleets.
First (until they pulled out of the capital), Stagecoach, Arriva, Go Ahead all cascade buses to provincial fleets after their time in London is up, even Tower Transit have done recently since acquiring Whippet, yet Blazefield/Transdev very very rarely did so.

First (until they pulled out of the capital), Stagecoach, Arriva, Go Ahead all cascade buses to provincial fleets after their time in London is up, even Tower Transit have done recently since acquiring Whippet, yet Blazefield/Transdev very very rarely did so. Basically there was nothing to cascade. BTS consisted of Routemasters and the H reg Olympians Sovereign (Harrow) consisted of Mercedes Minibuses. Later, once combined as London Sovereign new vehicles did go in, the S Reg Olympians and the V reg Darts. The Olympians did get cascaded, as did some of the Darts in the 540-550 series, but only because TfL paid some money towards the purchase of the B7TLs for the 183, and in return wanted the displaced Darts to allow them to be leased to Mitcham Belle. When they were ready for return, Blazefield had sold the Operations to Transdev, so we're basically stuck with them, hence their use as driver trainers in Yorkshire.

I really don't see what the problem with older buses is, to be honest. The B7/ B10 may not be brand new, but with a decent refurbishment and clean up inside they are normally far more comfortable and give a far smoother quieter ride than many of the newer vehicles.
I will be extremely pleased to see the Darts go. Horrible things. And freezing cold in the winter!
