In the evenings is it worth running, because when I see it nobody is on. During the day you see loads using it, not sure about Sunday.

That would be because it runs approx 3 mins behind the 508 both into & out of Leeds!

One bus per hour does indeed duplicate the 508 (albeit with a different route through the city centre), but the other bus each hour actually fills a gap to create a combined 15 minute frequency along Stanningley Road. It would seem logical to reduce the 73 to only operate once an hour, but the 30-min frequency presumably still exists for Fulneck passengers.

I'm not sure about evenings, but the 72, 73 and 508 into Leeds I find really useful. To be honest I don't know the times of these 3 into Leeds, I just go to the stop and one of them is bound to come in about 5-10mins. I know that a lot of passengers in Pudsey prefer the 4 to the 73 because the Streetcars are that un-timetabled now that you'll see a few before you see a 73. I suppose Fulneck residents will find it useful in the evening, though I'm not sure if many people use it at that time.
