hey all was informed by a passenger waiting at bus stop while was waiting for 96 with a friend that there had been a serious crash in headingley & that buses couldnt get through. this was proved by seeing 61029 which was on the 16.20 service from holt park to leeds which said leeds bus station on the blind before shortly pulling away with Private on it.also was 62116 that said cottingley on the blind but lefy with no passengers onboard even though was 20 people waiting for it.
is there a backup plan that first have in case an accident like today happens in headingley that buses can do as i know bout 40% of services travel through here.

Yes, There was a serious RTA on Headingley Lane yesterday at approx 1615. This happened by the 3 horseshoes public house & the police closed the road in both directions between Glen Road & Cottage Road.
Because of the position of the closure, buses were being diverted via North Lane, Queenswood Drive & Spen Lane, but due to the busy nature of all these roads, serious delays were experienced and therefore quite a few journeys were missed out because buses had to be re-positioned to get them back onto schedule and for driver releifs. Other buses that had gone past the divertion points were turned round in the road with police assistance. (Except for a couple of bendi's)
AFAIK there is no backup plan, because how can you plan for something that you don't know where or when it will happen!! All that can be done is to assess the situation as it happens and try and cope as best as possible, which is what happened.

I think 40% of First Leeds services running through Otley Road in Headingley is a rather large exageration. Yes a fairly large percentage of Kirkstall Road's PVR is on the Otley Road corridor on a Sunday.

theres always accidents onthat spot, right on a speed camera too! just shows that speed cameras are useless for saftey, drivers spend more time lookin at thier speedomentre then the road. last time it happened, the 96's were diverted along 28's adel route up to the ring road, i remeber waitin 2 hourse for a bus that day. 95's were still very frequent which didn't make much sence as they cover the same stretch of road.

Basically when this happens its a case of traffic inspectors (although they probably have a far more supreme job title these days) trying to make some sense of the chaos and attempting to keep as close to normal service as is possible, which does indeed involve turning buses round short, missing trips etc etc.
Buses use roads, roads can get closed, ergo buses can get delayed (just the same as your car).
