Yes, potentially some peak services will have to come out with platform closure at Leeds. Does this will mean platform 1 is out of use post February?

Yes, potentially some peak services will have to come out with platform closure at Leeds. Does this will mean platform 1 is out of use post February? Not necessarily. Platforms 2-5 are also being remodeled and extended as part of the Leeds station (northwestern approach) scheme, and the lines leading to platforms 1-5 are to be realigned.

Will Northern ever be able to meet the franchise commitment for additional Calder Valley service that increase frequency?

Does this will mean platform 1 is out of use post February? Not necessarily. Platforms 2-5 are also being remodeled and extended as part of the Leeds station (northwestern approach) scheme, and the lines leading to platforms 1-6 are to be realigned. For a few days over the Christmas/New Year break, 26-29 December, platforms 1-5 at Leeds will be out of use. Trains to Ilkley and Skipton will still run, but depart from platform 11 or 6. There will be some timetable changes for the few days, with no Bradford Forster Square trains at all, Halifax trains will be down to 3 tph (the Hull service will terminate at Leeds) and Harrogate line trains will start at Horsforth (presumably a bus connection from Leeds).

I see Class 170's are running out of Halifax to Hull now, with the 195's on the Chester route. Some nice variety out of Halifax at the moment.

Don't think there's such a company as Northern Rail?

Chances are it will still be called Northern Rail even if re-nationalised. Think it would cost too much money to do a full rebrand

Think it would cost too much money to do a full rebrand I think the issues with Northern may have changed the minds of the DfT that maybe they shouldn’t keep the same name all the time. Most people think Northern have run the trains since 2004 so ask why are they waiting for new trains when they’ve had 15 years.

Took advantage of the unbelievable good value 10p tickets today from Halifax - York. It also gave me chance on the return journey to experience one of the new 195 class. Plus points - the carriages are bright and airy, information is improved and the superior acceleration means the end to end journey times should be more reliable. A good example of this is we left Leeds 6 mins late at 1556 and still arrived in Bradford Interchange at 1614 ready for the departure at 1616. Minus points - probably lacking the 'wow' factor from outside, the ride is rather bumpy over points and the seats lack padding. However, overall these new trains should ensure an overall improved service.

When I googled Northern Rail and clicked on News I saw other reports too, indicating an announcement on Wednesday or Thursday.

Perhaps I should have done so at Leeds tobtest the reaction of staff, but no, I didn’t. Still have the ticket though. Should I?

It isn’t even officially called Northern Rail now, that’s just what everyone calls it as a hangover from the previous franchise.
It’s just “Northern”
