A six-month trial for a Bradford FreeCityBus has been approved by the WYPTA and Bradford Council. The service will connect key locations across the city including Bradford Interchange, The National Media Museum and Bradford's university and college. And from what I hear, Star Travel, who operate the Wakefield FreeCityBus are considering Bidding to operate the service.

I believe the route will be anti clockwise operating from the Interchange via Market Street, Forster Square, Retail Parks, Westgate, University, Media Museum and the Interchange
The contract to operate it has been awarded by default to First Bradford due to the service taking passengers away from First's own services.

I suppose it shouldn't come as a surprise that First won the contract for the service. But I suppose it doesn't matter who operates the service as long as it runs smoothly and is well-used. I will certainly make usage of it when I'm in Bradford.

Definitately picked up since I had been on, there was hardly anyone on the Solo's. The Centro's are even better than the solo in my opinion.

I'm sorry to say that I don't hold out much hope for the success of this one.
Bradford city centre is in poor economic shape - most people who are either car owners or reasonably ambulatory will travel into Leeds for a more comprehensive and, frankly, far more salubrious retail experience.
Forster Square Retail Park is primarily a "big box" purchase area which demographically and logistically places it firmly in car owner territory.
The only significant demand that I can forsee for this service will be peak demand between Forster Square and the University areas.
If I foretell doom and disaster I'm always prepared to subsequently eat my words and I hope that I'll be able to in this case but I sincerely doubt it.
It would have been interesting to have been a fly on the walls of Wellington Street to establish which body was the primary driver behind this scheme. I have a feeling that the Bradford Mandarins may have been stomping about saying "You've given Leeds and Wakey a free bus - we want one and we want one NOW!"

I'm sure Bradforders would also be upset that Bradford, a city, didn't have a free bus service when Huddersfield, a town, does, even if it is mainly used by the OAP's getting around the shops and uni students/staff travelling between the bus/train station and uni.

I have a feeling that the Bradford Mandarins may have been stomping about saying "You've given Leeds and Wakey a free bus - we want one and we want one NOW!" They were. It was a big story in the Telegarph & Atgus a while back. There were all these people wondering why Bradford hadn't got a Free Bus. Something to do with having a bombsite for a city centre, perhaps? Let's face it. Bradford's bus only stands a chance cos it serves the University and provides a link to the Interchange from Forster Square (but even then cos of the route it takes, it'd be quicker to walk anyway!) If it didn't, it'd be dependant on the wrinklies, but as they travel free anyway, they wouldn't wait 10 minutes for the next one, they'd just catch the next bus to John Street or wherever. I think it will get past the 6 month trial but only cos of the University. Cos when you think where else has a free bus (Leeds, Wakefield and Huddersfield) they've all got a better city centre than Bradford.

^^Then it is upto the Council, to pull the finger out of the backside and start renovating the site which is in a State which will be hard as it is the most of Bradford Anyway LOL.

I'm sure there is enough people in Bradford who will use the bus to go from the bottom to the top of town. Even though half the centre has been knocked down, it's still heaving with locals going from £1 shop to £1 shop!
