BBC News web site information More than 150 bus drivers have gone on strike in Huddersfield, causing significant disruption to services. Drivers belonging to the Unite union walked out in the early hours of Monday in a dispute with First over the amount of holiday offered in new contracts. From next year, new recruits will get 28 days a year compared to the current 33. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-34964474Some routes have been cancelled during the 24-hour strike, but First is hopng to run a reduced service on others. In a letter to passengers, Unite regional officer Phil Brown said the action had been "forced upon us by First Bus trying to renege on terms and conditions of employment for bus drivers in Yorkshire". "Industrial action is always an emotive position and is not taken lightly, however the drivers feel that they have been left with no option," he said. Oliver Howarth, business manager for First Huddersfield, said he did not believe the strike was "justified". He said: "The current bus drivers aren't actually affected by the agreement which has been put in place and is now in dispute with the union. "We're very disappointed it has come to this and we're very sorry for our passengers to be put through this."
