I reckon they'll axe stops in the Leeds area, maybe non stop between Leeds and Moortown or something.

I reckon they'll axe stops in the Leeds area, maybe non stop between Leeds and Moortown or something. Apart from Ripley, the bus runs the fastest and most direct route from Ripon to A6120, and the time that would be saved by missing out stops on that section would be minimal - so yes, running it non/limited-stop down the A61 in Leeds is the logical choice.

The bad bit is I've seen it used quite well between Chapel Allerton and Moortown and the 36 is quite fast on this route compared to the 2/3. Limited stop conditions are carried on Chapeltown Road, most custom by then is taken over by the 2/3.
Running 36 via Scott Hall Road (A61) won't make the route much faster times will probably differ by 5 minutes, so won't really look practical. look the same as that on the 7A/7S, and even there quite speedy getting into Leeds. Plus I think it's a way of losing passengers, they are a number of people that do like to travel between the upcoming affluent area of Chapel Allerton beyond to Harrogate.
Also on the way out of Leeds, that hill to contend with on Scott hall road, (especially if transdev are thinking of new buses), before they've reached Moortown. If anything heading up Chapeltown road is a lot easier on fuel consumption basis.

And in the evening peak the northern end of Scott Hall Road is typically a complete grid lock so it would probably be a lot slower.

Up to an hour to reach Harrogate does put some train users off of using the 36, and with extra East Coast Harrogate to Leeds trains soon to run, Transdev's have to act soon before existing custom starts to turn to East Coast! Would running direct from the bus station along Regent Street (missing Briggate) and having City Square journeys running to and from The Headrow via the Inner Ring Road with only outbound journeys calling at the bus station (then running as above) help, traffic in Leeds can be a problem, this could shave around 5 mins off. Other savings could be made by having stopping conditions in Harrogate, no local passengers carried from Pannal to Harrogate and vice versa, local Pannal to Harrogate bus introduced every 30 mins instead, this could save a few mins towards Harrogate and a minute or two with nobody getting off up to Pannal towards Leeds. At peak times half of the peak buses could run non stop until the Ring Road, you'd still have a decent enough frequency from the rest for Moortown to Chapel A passengers.

Well of course I'm guessing the bus is cheaper than the train, has a higher chance of getting a seat, and is a much more modern vehicle. Plus if you live on the route you don't have to make your way to Harrogate town centre. Transdev are also apparently going to introduce more journeys that start/finish in the Harrogate suburbs at peak times.
The Virgin Trains East Coast service improvements don't start until 2019 and will only be every 2 hours, with probably means hardly any improvement in peak times compared to now.
Northern Rail's service is unlikely to change any time soon, with travellers using the elderly 150s & 155s until probably 2050 based on current estimates!

I would have the 36 outbound via Regent Street & inbound in the current way. Simply because on an evening Regent Street can be a bit of a snarl up.

For a 1 week ticket the 36 is £33, the train is £39.30. Of course the Transdev ticket is valid into the suburbs of Harrogate too. VTEC have new trains arriving in 2018. Northern are required to have 4tph Harrogate to Leeds inter-peak and 2tph in the evening by December 2017 ( www.gov.uk/government/publications/northern-franchise-2015-invitation-to-tender )

I wouldnt be surprised by 2017/18 due to constant rises in train ticket prices, if a weeks train ticket between Leeds and Harrogate will cost £50 plus by then. Even if VTEC run there or northern still have a sprinter/pacer still in play.

Looks impressive already and judging by the spaced out seating it looks like it'll be 2+1 seating upstairs again like the current fleet. Michael Windle

Shame that they are going to be ugly street decks. E400MMC would have looked better in 36 livery. TBH anything would have looked better at the front end. Perhaps they won't look as bad in the 36 livery as they do in some others. The FSY X78 ones don't look too bad in the new livery.

Maybe the MMC was a lot more than what was offered. Be interesting to see how they perform when delivered. Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

I wonder whether these really are StreetDecks, or Volvo B5TL/LH with Wright Gemini new-style bodywork?

Yes indeed, came face to face with this object whilst i was at Crossroads on tuesday. The camera flatters it. Truly an aesthetic nightmare.

According to Transdev, the new buses feature "Double glazing to give you a better view"
Not sure how double glazing creates a better view. The lack of view from the front side seats and the smaller windows throughout won't create a better view.
