I'm wondering if anyone will be able to help? I'm looking into old bus routes around Hemsworth in the 90's, maybe even earlier and I seem to remember a few (maybe incorrectly) and was wondering if anyone could assist me::
122 Wakefield > Hemsworth > Brierley 123 Wakefield > Hemsworth > Grimethorpe 195 Wakefield > Ryhill > Hemsworth (West Riding Buses)
295 Pontefract > Hemsworth > Wombwell (Clarksons Travel)
498 Wakefield > Hemsworth > Doncaster 499 Kinsley > Hemsworth > South Elmsall (Yorkshire Rider; 498 referred to locally as the 'United')
83 - Hemsworth > South Elmsall 86 - Hemsworth circular 88 - Pontefract > Hemsworth > South Elmsall 89 - Hemsworth > Newstead (Yorkshire Traction 'TownLink')
244/245 - Pontefract > Ackworth > Hemsworth > Barnsley 246 - Pontefract > Upton > Hemsworth > Barnsley 247 - Upton > Hemsworth > Barnsley 249 - Pontefract > Hemsworth > Upton (Yorkshire Traction)
Just wondering if anyone could correct the above/add other services please?

The football specials wouldn't have run all the way to Sheffield but terminated at Hillsborough, in fact I seem to think they were parked on Middlewood Road well away from the specials operated by Sheffield Transport. There was also the Sheffield - Hoyland - Wombwell - Low Valley - Hemsworth services 270/271 (one via Jump and the other Elsecar operated jointly by Yorskshire Traction and Sheffield JOC this was the original service to Upton after it had been cut back. I know this service did cause some confusion in Sheffield Pond Street Bus Station since there was also a local Sheffield service which also went to Hemsworth (a suburb on the Sheffield Derbyshire border)

I've definitely heard of the 270 from my parents; do you know what year this finished? And why it finished?
I've also heard that the 195 at one point continued to Leeds? Is this right?
One other i can think of is:
183 - South Elmsall > Hemsworth > Featherstone > Castleford (West Riding Buses?)

Not sure when or why it finished but it was cut back to Sheffield - Wombwell and just run by Yorkshire Traction. The part north of Chapeltown was not used that much it had the Sheffield - Barnsley covering it as well. Chapletown and to the south the local services to Sheffield increased and I think the same happened Hoyland and Wombwell to Barnsley plus there were already other Low Valley services and changes were introduced with demand to the older pit villages and changes to the local road networks. Train services between Sheffield and Barnsley via Wombwell were also improved

To say Hemsworth is on the SY border (and I believe once upon a time it was SY) there are very few SY connections, barring Barnsley and the one bus to Doncaster.
Does anyone know if this has always been the case?

It is a different Hemsworth a Sheffield suburb to the south of Sheffield which is on the South Yorkshire / Derbyshire border Hemsworth (Nr Pontefract) is also on the SY border (WY and SY).... This is the Hemsworth I am referring to. There are very few SY towns that it is connected to via bus routes barring Barnsley and Doncaster (and that's only one bus!) Just wondering if that had always been the case? Obviously the 270/271 has been mentioned, just wondering if there were any others? Also, any other bus routes within Hemsworth, not necessarily to SY, that were around during the 70's/80's/90's?

Also remember a 183 service that ran South Elmsall to Castleford through Hemsworth; did this once continue to Leeds?

B-Line operated a couple of services around Hemsworth I seem to remember; seen a photo of a 244 in Wakefield heading to Hemsworth. I also seem to remember that Clarksons did a 298 to Wakefield and there was also a company that did a 198, was this B Line?

339 Barnsley - Carlton - Shafton - Newstead - Hemsworth.
Various operators played a part in this service including Yorkshire Traction, Barnsley & District, SUT, mainline and I believe wilfreda Beehive for a time had a go.

How about the 197 (West Riding (?) & Arriva) that used to run around the estate at Kinsley to Hemsworth and then to Newstead via the 195 route to Havercroft Green and a 194 to Newstead. I remember it back in 2000 when I had just started at AY but was withdrawn soon after that. It involved running dead from Wakefield to Kinsley with a Metrorider, doing 2 round trips and then dead back to Wakefield

I remember a 194 or 197 around the same time that ran via Mountbatten Avenue in Sandal , don't think think it has a service now.

If I remember correctly (open to correction though as it was early 2000's) it was 195 to Hemsworth every hour that went around Mountbatten. It didnt last long as we were always getting stuck with parked cars and the numbers using the service didnt warrant the detour. The later 197 (Wakefield to Newstead and NOT the Hemsworth - Ryhill - Newstead one) IIRC ran on a night and went via Agbrigg Road (again open to correction) Penfold

During day made the Hemsworth section every 30 minutes alternating with the 196.
