Whilst travelling to see the family in Halifax, on Good Friday about 1115,I was driving down the Cliviger Valley towards Todmorden, when running parallel with me was a UID class 142. It was just west of Holme tunnel, and as I thought the only trains were the Blackpool North - York trains I thought it a little strange. Coincidentally the 1011 BPN to York passed us at Weeton and was deffo a 158. Could have been ECS possibly, as there appeared to be no human traffic on it. Wondered if you could help.

There have been workings on several occasions recently between Blackburn and Todmorden for route learning in preparation for the extension of Manchester Victoria to Todmorden stopper to Burnley and Blackburn.
on Good Friday one such working was 5T43 10:44 Blackburn to Todmorden, I assume that is the one you saw.

why did you not travel by rail?
THE new Blackburn-Manchester (via Tod) service starts at the May timetable change so I would think it unusual not to see a route learning train at some time there. Most trains that currently start at Tod will start back at Blackburn (I think they will continue through to Wigan).

BT. Simple, I had just 5 hours to drive to Halifax, see the family member and get back to St. Annes to pick my wife up, as there was no bus service where she works on Good Friday!! Also thanks to you both for your replies, I did later look on real time trains to make sure it was not an illusion
