Which services must be run by a single decker due to a low bridge en route, the ones I know of are as follows:
5 & 91 (due to low bridge at Osmondthorpe) 9, 167, 168, 173, 174, 175 (due to low bridge at Woodlesford)
83 (due to low bridge at Upper Denby) 262 (due to low bridge at Mirfield)
X58 (due to low bridge at Littleborough) E7, E8 (due to low bridge at Elland) 258, 278, 548, 549 (due to low bridge at Brighouse) 541, 542, 555 (due to low bridge at Halifax)
Is there any others, particularly in Wakefield district?

435/436 due to Thornes (although the Tridents SHOULD get under)
5/91 should get under if ALX400s used - BP used to fit the Scanias under (dependent on height of radio pod)

435/436 due to Thornes (although the Tridents SHOULD get under) 5/91 should get under if ALX400s used - BP used to fit the Scanias under (dependent on height of radio pod) The bridge on Osmondthorpe Lane, was adjusted in 2008. As it dips under the Leeds - York line. The dip was raised due to flooding. Raising the height, meant a lower height between the road And the bridge. Before then any decker could get under. ALX400s, even the olympian Royale's that appeared on 91 from time to time could use it.

Happy to be corrected but I believe the 102 Portobello has to be a single decker due to the low bridge just after busy corner. I know it's unlikely to be anything bigger than the E200s though (have seen bigger on it in the past!)

I know it's unlikely to be anything bigger than the E200s though (have seen bigger on it in the past!) Going back a few years I remember taking a Lynx around Portobello but had to put a few shunts in to get around one of the corners which is why it has mini's on. The bridge I believe is plated at 13'9'' (although I would want it checking first) so in theory a Spectra could go round but nothing else. Penfold

The bridge at Halton Moor is 14'2 last I remember, a Gemini being too big at 14'4? And an Enviro400 been to big too at 14'6. Correct me if wrong. Deckers will not be used on there, well for the foreseeable future as LCC have banned them for taking them down there. It did changed a few years back, and the height plate restriction was reduced, which meant ALX's were allowed till 2008?

Pride of the Dales 74, Dalesbus 873 (Stephensons & Transdev Keighley) and Dalesbus 874 (Arriva) have to use single-decker buses because of the arch at Bolton Abbey.
Other routes across York and North Yorkshire: Leeman Road bridge: First York 2 & 5; Reliance 19 & 30; Stephensons 29 & 31 Castle Howard arch: Stephensons 181 & 183 Naburn bridge: Arriva 42, Utopia 42-2 Stainsacre bridge: Coastal & Country 94A Various railway bridges: Coastal & Country 99/EVH

ConnexionsBuses 960 and 962 are single deck due to the low bridge at Ben Rhydding (the 961 also being single deck due to interworking) while the same bridge forces Connexions to use single deckers on the X52 between Ilkley and Harrogate.

We all know that the Arriva Geminis which are almost 14'0" will pass under it, however a couple of slightly older and taller local variants have triggered the warning signs on the Wakefield side of the bridge, thank goodness for the Redbeck café and Redbeck filling station which make turning back after refuelling and a cup of tea easy....

It was always 14'3'' until they put the steel beam across both sides of the bridge. After that the signs with different heights on appeared. Gemini's and Lowlanders are 13'11 (Spectras 13'8'') and on seeing a Lowlander approach earlier it looked as if there was more clearance than the 4'' that was expected. Having said that I'm just waiting for a driver to approach, read the height of the bridge and vehicle and refuse to go under it ! AY has still (I believe) an ongoing battle with WMDC to have all the approach signs corrected. Penfold

Penfold Scared me half to death first time I approached that bridge in a decker, was half and half wether to stop and radio in because of signs but saw a lowlander come opposite direction under it and just thought 'oh we fit, thank god!' Haha 135/136/138 are all single decker routes due to 12 foot grove road bridge 188's is also single decker, well dart on full run due to: A) only darts can comfortably navigate over fryston village bridge B) low trees between heath and kirkthorpe

AY has still (I believe) an ongoing battle with WMDC to have all the approach signs corrected. Penfold It is standard practice to have the maximum height notice on the bridge be lower than the bridge actually is to give a safety margin, though I wouldn't bank on this anywhere you are unfamiliar with, and so all local operators will know the actual height of their bridges and what buses can get underneath in real life. You can also find that it is a different height from different directions due to angles & bridge construction or that there are different heights on different parts of the bridge which means that some vehicles can get under whilst others wouldn't so a comparatively short double-decker will go under whilst an articulated lorry of a similar height simply couldn't get lined up correctly to safely pass under. As such it is not unusual to see service buses going under a bridge that is marked with a lower height than the vehicle actually is (and as such activating the warning signs on approach where they exist - it's not widespread but I do know of this happening in places elsewhere in the country) but as an operator you have to be absolutely 100% certain that you are comfortable it is safe before you do it. As regular drivers on regular routes with regular vehicle allocations I am sure that drivers are briefed on these situations to make them aware both so they won't refuse to take acceptable vehicles under but won't take unacceptable ones through & know how careful they need to be.

Simple answer to Cragg Road is yes. When YR operated the 900 we used either NCME 7*** Fleetlines or 5*** Olympians. Can't recall a 60** Atlantean , Roe 7*** Fleetlines, or exGMB Fleetlines ever being used on there. It is actually quite a high bridge. If you think about it the original two storey station building is next to it, the top floor exiting on to the station platform 20' higher. Further to that and Andy1 will know, the railway bridge at the bottom of Bramston Street in Brighouse used to be a double deck working (which involved driving on the wrong side of the road just before a blind bend!!), am led to believe it is now single deck only, but willing to be proved wrong. That is probably more to do with scrapes as the bus driver swung the bus left to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle, the bridge being high enough in the middle, in fact lines were painted on the road for DD's to keep right of.

In the old days the 548/549 did used to see Fleetlines and Olympians and the M62 did go that way at one time and use Royales, but everything has been single deck only that way for about 10-15 years.
There is also Henconner Lane in Bramley, served by the 80.
Gledholt Bank in Paddock, Huddersfield is also low, but isn't a bus route at the moment.
