The Metro web site is saying December 2013 "Work on building a new Westgate station started in May 2013. Completion is scheduled during December 2013." www.wymetro.com/news/projects/projectdetails/westgate/

I haven't been to Kirkgate since the summer and there seemed to be very little going on with the main building. I get the horrible feeling that the end product will be 'dumbed down' on what we all expect and in a few years it'll be back to its state prior to refurb. Just not sure its gonna be as great as everyone thinks, hope I'm wrong but get this horrible feeling it'll be nowt to write home about. Can someone take some snaps next time they're next there and post em on here?

I have managed to get an update from East Coast on Westgate and they have said that finishing touches are being over the next couple of weeks and the completion date was supposed to be October/November but has slipped slightly.

Is there a reason preventing the old building from remaining open until the new one is ready? It's not really the best time of year to be closing off waiting facilities

When I got off the London train Thursday evening it looked like they have started taking down some of the wooden panels and fence that are on the platform to prevent access to the building and could see into the new ticket hall. It looked like it the decoration was being completed.

This weeks Wakefield Express is reporting the opening date is set for Sunday 22nd December 2013.
I say this weeks edition since a couple of weeks ago they (Wakefield Express) reported that the Wakefield Model Railway in Thornes Park had been cancelled only of the following week for them to do a feature on the show saying how wonderful it was...................... whinge over
The Wakefield Free City bus must being re-routed since a spotted a new stop on Mulberry Way. At least the re-siting of the station and access to it may go some way to reducing the congestion at the bottom of the current station approach.

Instead on going into the station as current, it is being rerouted around Mulberry Way, Cliff Lane, Drury Lane. It is then turning left onto Westgate, which has been made left turn for buses only (Yeah right as if only buses are going to turn left here now !) The traffic lights have already been rephased to allow this, hence the gridlock around the area at rush hour over the past week or so. Penfold

WAKEFIELD Westgate update.
The new station opens this coming Sunday with the old closing Saturday. I am travelling down in coach C today , so stood just outside the new building and it looks impressive and has all the ticket gates installed, just with the wrapping to be removed.

Is there a new First Class lounge in the station, do you know?
Tried the old one out just a couple of weeks ago.
Diddy but a little claustrophobic.

I have always wondered what the First class lounge is like. I have sat outside it many times and seen the odd person use it. I haven't seen where it is going to be in the new station as I could only see through the new doors next to costa, but the metro website says there is going to be a new first class lounge as well as standard waiting area.

First class lounges feature free Wi-Fi and complimentary drinks and refreshments and most first class tickets (except Advance First) all allow entry.
When you consider that a First Anytime Day Single from Wakefield to Leeds is just £3.80, the lounge can be used quite inexpensively!

I wonder if a Standard single to Leeds and a cup of coffee from Costa would in fact be more than £3.80. I suppose it is all down to quality and quantity of the Coffee on offer in the first class lounge!
