It is now public that Stagecoach are selling the Huddersfield garage to Arriva Yorkshire.
So that explains why Arriva have won the contracts off Metro and why no Enviro300s are going to Huddersfield.

I must admit Im surprised as Stagecoach had seem committed to Huddersfield, since they had been planning to send those Enviro's, and had attempted to improve the network
Though certainly a good fit with Arriva
The 20 from Barnsley will remain Stagecoach Barnsley depot operated wont it?

When do you think it will be on the Arriva/Stagecoach sites?
Any chance of a link to this info?

It's from Tracky Yahoo! group so if you're not a member you wont see message. Anyway the only suggestion of this happening is the company registration by Arriva for a new company where Stagecoach's Huddersfield garage is at present.

Well having had the pleasure of working for both companies I can say without a shadow of doubt that if I was working at Stagecoach Huddersfield I would be rejoicing at the news.
I am not really surprised to hear it as Stagecoach seem to be selling off anything that is not 100% what they want and slashing what they have to the bone to maximise profits. Within the last 2 or 3 years they have sold enough assets to create quite a sizeable group. Then they go and do the usual stunts in Preston, I suppose some habits die hard.

On Saturday, Huddersfield drivers were informed of the possible takeover and Arriva Management held a talk with them (From Traction Group News).
Yes the 20 will remain Stagecoach operated as thats run from Upper Sheffield Road anyway. Ecclesfield depot will still have the Sunday service running in from Sheffield and Stocksbridge unless they haven't lost the tender for that.

Theres a small article in the latest issue of Bus & Coach buyer about the possible take over of the Stagecoach Huddersfield operation by Arriva. Arriva have approached Stagecoach and talks have been held with the relevant people as well as the staff at the depot. But nothing has been signed yet and its business as normal for now.

All the Spectras that are being cascaded are going to Heckmondwike from Wakefield once all the B9TLs have arrived.

Indeed, although I wonder if that may change, especially the bit about all the Arrows and Lances at Heckmondwike being withdrawn
Stagecoach would probably like the low floor Huddersfield vehicles to move to South Yorkshire

Nobody seems to have picked up on the operator registration appearing as if the trading name will be The Huddersfield Bus Company? Surely this can't be right, Arriva not using their brand?!
I think Arriva should reorganise the services back to the 235-240 (albeit with necessary changes) to offset the public outcry when Stagecoach renumbered them, thus making Arriva look like the passengers' friend!

I had noticed. My guess is that this is simply a paper transaction for the change of ownership by Arriva SOUTHERN and not Arriva Southern Counties. Same company I think as both have addresses in Maidstone, Kent.

Arriva will be enjoying it, firstly stagecoach has done their job of service cuts and then obviously arriva will blend their usual habbit of further service cuts. I can't see any good news for people in Rural south Kirklees.
As someone one has pointed out, they seem to be coming in, in order to compete in the town.

Is there any further information on this or has the sale of Stagecoach Huddersfield to Arriva died a death?
Also, which Arriva depots will the 231/2 and 262 be operated from? Dewsbury or Wakefield (or even Heckmondwike!)?
|
|
|
Post by jackh on Apr 21, 2008 14:21:15 GMT 1
The 262 will be operated from Dewsbury depot with two hourly extension from Mirfield to Dewsbury on Sundays.
The 231/2 will be operated from Belle Isle.

The Huddersfield operations will pass to Arriva as from 28th April 2008.
It will be run under the "Huddersfield Bus Company" name registered with Arriva Southern Counties.

Are they definitely using the Huddersfield Bus Company name, or has this just been lifted from information on VOSA's website. I only ask because I suggested the same thing a while back but nothing had been confirmed about the name (or indeed that the transfer was concrete).

I think the name will be used for now but I can't see it lasting forever before given the Arriva brand.
