It would be good for a frequency increase lets say 1 train an hour running to Goole or even Hull via Goole. Then the other terminating in Knottingley. 30 min frequency. Or instead they'll bump up carriages the old fashioned way and double trains instead of double frequency

An hourly service cannot run between Knottingley and Goole due to the single track sections and the line used quite heavily by freight. Simply not the capacity.

How about a platform at Knottingley on the Doncaster branch line and a Wakefield-Castleford-Pontefract-Doncaster service?

An hourly service cannot run between Knottingley and Goole due to the single track sections and the line used quite heavily by freight. Simply not the capacity. Initially the Leeds to Goole service was withdrawn to a shortage of DMU's, they've said at intervals since the withdrawal that they would reconsider reinstating some kind of regular service if rolling stock became available, but I just think that's lip service. It would be nice to have the service back and another route into Hull, but its probably way down the list at the minute.

When the line through Hatfield was closed and it looked like the repair work may clash with the planned closure at Selby, suggestions of diverting trains from Doncaster to Hull via Knottingley and Goole was shot down as the amount of freight trains using the line prevented any half decent passenger service from running that way, the same as with the line through Brigg to Cleethorpes.
That's not to say that Leeds to Goole is limited to the current service level forever, but for a decent frequency passenger service and to maintain the current number of freight paths would require redoubling, which would never be cost effective in the accountants eyes.

How about a platform at Knottingley on the Doncaster branch line and a Wakefield-Castleford-Pontefract-Doncaster service? I did think of a similar idea but running from Leeds instead running coordinated with the existing Leeds to knottingley service then continuing to Doncaster. Pontefract does have poor links with it's hourly bus service, although scenic, does get a little boring and doesn't have a service that gets to Doncaster before 0900 I believe and only three trains a day southbound and two northbound. Any thoughts?

A nice idea I think for more trains between Pontefract and Doncaster, with potential for new stations at Norton and Askern.
Would the installation of the new Shaftholme chord affect train paths on this route though, given more freight will be using it?
