Ah, can explain this one, they've tried to turn them around on the roundabout but this proved unsafe so they now use the bus station to turn (but some may take the unsafe route to save time). hmm sounds about right, start a bus service without testing it first…

Thanks.
That explains it.
Crazy that they have to turn round in the bus station, but can't stop there!

"Crazy that they have to turn round in the bus station, but can't stop there!" It is just a temporary situation and was planned for. Other works are planned to improve speed and relaibility eg works and Thoprnbury Roundabout. There will be new bus stops and shelters, some stops will be relocated.

Presumably the reason turning at Eastgate is unsafe is because the turn is against the flow of green lights leaving the buses stuck on the roundabout blocking other traffic?

They should do what I said before this started divert the inbound buses to vicar lane then finish outside bus station (opp Mecca) then work their way up to east gate from there.

At the moment those stops are quite full already.
They should formalise those stops as part of the Bus Station in my opinion, especially as some Arriva out of town services use them. If they did this, the 6 & Arriva 202/220/229/254 etc could terminate here as well so they don't have to alight in the bays.

There was a serious pile up on Eastgate roundabout yesterday afternoon. The silly traffic light phasing doesn`t suit artics. I noticed last week that one streetcar used the bus station to turn around in rather than go all the way around the roundabout.I can see changes to the Leeds terminal point coming soon. It will be interesting to see how articulated trolleybuses cope on Eastgate.

Somebody on Flickr has suggested that First WY will get more ftrs from Swansea for use on the 72, while also mentioning a rumour of the 72 being extended to Huddersfield. Is there any truth in this or are they just wild suggestions? www.flickr.com/photos/85713265@N04/9170392462/

There are far too many 'know it alls' in the bus enthusiast community these days, you only have to look at flickr photos before seeing someone spouting off with loads of 'insider' info, that is generally false.

Hi im a host on the 72 and I have also heard this rumour but dont think theres any truth in this at the mo, but I can tell you that 19012 & 19014 are up somewhere near newcastle getting new cummins engines put in and new electric and rewiring, and if these work, the rest of fleet will receive this treatment

Good to see them getting new engines! They are seriously under-powered at present.I think it is fair to say that Hyperlink has suited their operation much better than on route 4.

It is definately being looked at, whether it happens is open to debate.

Some of them sound different. I was under the impression there was a large percentage of them running with cummins units

Lets just say many we're dead sure that the 503 & 508 would be leaving Halifax months ago. They haven't. They would say that plans have changed, but the plans may not have existed in the first place.
If the X6 was moving to Bramley and the X63 moving to Bradford, why would that mean that the 72 is being extended to Huddersfield, when the 72 is run by Bramley!

Where are Bramley going to park all these FTR's and the X6 vehicles!
If the 72 were to be extended to Huddersfield surely it would replace the X63?

Maybe the thought is to cancel the X6 and have the 72 running from Leeds to Huddersfield. Like I said, it IS being thought about but doesn't mean it is going to happen. But would tie in nicely with them trying some cummins engines to give them more poke up hills. They wouldn't be doing and spending the money just to increase the speed of the bus.

I couldn't see the X6 being cancelled. A popular and well-used service and a lot faster between Bradford and Leeds. If the 72 was to be extended to Huddersfield, it probably would be in place of the 363/X63.
A couple of issue that I've thought of regarding extending the 72 would be a) Could the Streetcars use the Guided Busway on Manchester Road? and b) Where would the terminus be in Huddersfield? I imagine they would be able to drop passengers off at the terminating stands but presumably would have to start on Market Street (200/327 stop).

Or it could do a loop round huddersfield,Say from bradford rd - straight up Castlegate, down Westgate then turn left to rail stn & as it does now & use the current X6/X63 Stand in bus stn for 370/1/2 towards moldgreen

If they are going on the 301/302 Golcar circulars, they should have ordered the Max version instead.
