Who? ,Is currently the UK's largest operator of scheduled daily bus services. (including school services). I ask, because of a recent debate with a friend. Due to recent Stagecoach expansion and First contraction, I maintain that as of now (OCT 12) Stagecoach are the biggest. He on the other hand reckons First are still the biggest. Please help with a definitive factual answer, as it may prevent violence between us.

I suspect it depends what criterion you use - the most miles run in service, the most buses run in service, the most seats/capacity run in service, the largest number of passengers carried, the largest number of passenger miles?

Thanks for the above responses. However what I was trying to find out was, quite simply who is the Biggest UK operator. Ie, Who has the biggest fleet?. Who runs the most number of buses in scheduled daily service?. I know for a fact It's either Stagecoach or First. What i need is a definitive answer from You, my fellow esteemed forum members. I'd love to win this argument if i could.

I heard that when Stagecoach reacquired East London & Selkent from Macquarie in 2010, they became the largest UK bus operator, in terms of having either more vehicles or a higher PVR than First. First had dropped several low-margin routes in recent years, enabling Stagecoach to regain the no 1 slot relinquished in 1996. when First acquired Strathclyde Buses.
