Has it been established yet why the bus was so far off its normal route?

First have posted their changes to services between Leigh and Manchester in April, which includes the launch of Vantage. Services 12, 25, 26, 39 and X34 will be withdrawn (no news on DiamondBus's 12/26 evening service, Stagecoach continue with the X34). New service 35 will be introduced with most journeys running between Leigh and Swinton via Astley, Tyldesley, Little Hulton, Walkden and Roe Green with some peak-time journeys running to/from Manchester. Service X39 is re-routed to run via Astley instead of Atherton and will run via Old Clough Lane and East Lancs Road instead of via Swinton. Afternoon journeys will also be introduced heading out of Manchester towards Leigh. Service V1 will run betwen Leigh and Manchester via the guided busway through Tyldesley, while service V2 will run from Atherton to Tyldesley and the guided busway to Manchester. The changes will mean that Lowton and Boothstown will no longer be served by First buses (Stagecoach's 34 service will continue to serve these locations). www.firstgroup.com/greater-manchester/news-and-service-updates/planned-changes/service-changes-leigh-atherton-and

I understand the Stevenson Square terminus is temporary until the routes are diverted to the Royal Infirmary via Oxford Road Station. I saw a diagram on the First website which indicates that the stretch of the guided busway is between Leigh & Ellenbrook, not including Atherton or anywhere far east such as Salford or Manchester. www.firstgroup.com/uploads/maps/Vantage%20Map%20Final.pdf

I believe Bolton depot has also gained B9s 36279 and 36280 from Oldham to act as cover for the Vantage B5H vehicles.

As the PVR is apparently only 18, I can't see all that much need for them to be used, as there should be 2 branded buses available for maintainance or breakdown substitutions. Having said that, I did see all 20 in use on Tuesday, although I believe that there may be some 'extra' journeys being run, to help the drivers become familiar with the guideway running, and to allow for the extra time answering passenger queries etc on route.

For some reason I had posted this under Stagecoach, too much sun at Headingley............ Bus passengers can expert chaos on the roads on Tuesday as hundreds of bus drivers are poised to go on strike. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/manchester-bus-strike-affected-services-11364872First Manchester drivers at the operator’s Oldham and Queens Road depots have confirmed they will take action for the full day. The walk-out will affect Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford , and Trafford - with FIFTY services either cancelled or reduced. There are 700 drivers at the firm’s two depots in the region but it is not yet known exactly how many of those will strike.

TfGM have tweeted that weekly and season tickets from First Manchester and System One can be used on trams on the Eccles and Rochdale lines and on trains between Eccles and Manchester tomorrow (24 May) to help passengers affected by First Manchester's strike.
