Any Royales been scrapped yet ? Yes i belive 30798 was the first WY royale example to be scrapped last year due to having massive fire damage & then been stripped for parts as well as its top deck due to been carried on a lowloader. Also belive more halifax examples will follow shortly due to bee withdrawn.

It is true, I have heard that all steppers in First are going when the Olympics have finished.

All are being withdrawn and scrapped in September due to Ex-First Shuttle (Olympic) buses. Source? Depot worker/Shunter at Halifax. All steppers as far as I am aware are being withdrawn throughout West Yorkshire, They are aiming for 100% Low floor. When we get the Olympic buses there would then be too many buses to fit in one depot and if they carry them on they'll rarely see work as they have no Buggy/Wheel chair space, no ramp and steps - They are just asking to be withdrawn frankly, with the new bus delivery in the very near future. Plus, they cost too much to maintain ( Think a royale is more reliable that a Gemini lol ). They are only allowing Step Entrance buses to be run until 2017.

Anyone think Olympics buses might turn out to be the ex-London Plaxton Presidents rather than the brand new stuff. I can't see brand new Enviro 400s operating the 503 anytime soon.
There's only 200 brand new buses and I'd guess the larger operators would be at the front of the queue.

No it has been said that they are wanting the smaller towns to get new buses because they havent had new ones for years and Metro are having a go at First Halifax because they dont have any buses that meet Euro4 or higher.

Ill throw my hat in the ring, and say that a near neighbour told me, his depot manager (Old Fieldhouse Lane) has told all staff down there, all Royale's and the remaining other step deckers will be withdrawn and scrapped immediately after the olympics. This is due to the cascade that will take place after the games to ensure FWY & FSY will be 100% low-floor. However don't be wetting your pants in anticipation of ex-olympic shuttle "12" plate Gemini 2's coming here. All this means is we are guaranteed newer buses than we currently have. The smart money is on the Olympic shuttles going to the big provincial's like Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow, possibly Leeds etc. The likes of Huddersfield, Bradford, Halifax, Rotherham, Doncaster and York etc will probably end up with ex-London "W"&"X"reg clapped out President's and ALX400's.

It would make sense for the new stuff to go to Leeds/Bradford cascading ALX400s off public bus routes to Leeds/Bradford/Halifax/Huddersfield where they would mainly be used on schools replacing Olympians.

Depot worker at Halifax. (edited by Tim to protect the identity) Not been funny here but is it really wise to reveal people's working identities on a public forum where known First employees read & therefore the names involved could face discipliniaries for leaking out perhaps private information?

Status of the ex West Yorkshire Royales is: 30238 in service 31673 in service (just been tested) 31685 withdrawn-rear axle failed. No plans to withdraw them when cascading starts.
