That's a difficult one to vote on. What criteria makes one operator "Better" than the other?. Personally, I liked both fleet's and used to travel daily on both to get to work "When i were a lad". Usually a YR Atlantean/Fleetline or Olympian from Linthwaite to Hudds bus stn. Then a YT Bristol VR/Olympian or National from Hudds to Dewsbury and i liked them all. Given the fact that this is predominantly a West Yorkshire based forum and most members are from this locale plus the fact that YT were a South Yorkshire based company, With only one depot in our area (Waterloo) It's probably obvious that YR will win this poll hands down simply due to the fact that most of us will be more familiar with their fleet and service's.

Yorkshire Traction, of the two, for me. In its heyday it was a very good company with a large operating base covering most of what is now South Yorkshire and aso running into Dewsbury, Huddersfield and Leeds. At one time it even reached Cullingworth! Anyone remember that?

Memorie's are a bit sketchy now ,As im thinking back to 1982/3.

Yes, the 260 was Hudds to Bradford via Cleckheaton. And the 278 was Hudds to Queensbury. These service's were nearly alway's run with National's. Im pretty sure there was a 261 service as well, But cant for the life of me recall where it went.

Must dig out an old YWD timetable as that company ran the services as 67/68 I believe.

When I first came to West Yorkshire in 1989 it as primarily out of interest to ride some Yorkshire Rider buses. They had sent a few buses to London (LBL Potters Bar garage and Metrobus of Orpington) and had become the first PTC to be privatised.

I'm pretty sure 261 was Huddersfield - Dewsbury via Flockton, Emley, West Bretton (?) and Thornhill.

It ran every 2 hours in 1991/2 leaving Dewsbury starting at 7:30 am etc interworking with the 263/264 Huddersfield Wakefield services

Sometime soon after 1974/5 since the South Yorkshire Routes operated by Yorkshire Traction were already preceeded by either 1 2 or 3 According to my May 1976 Kirklees District Metro Timetable: Yorkshire Traction 261 Huddersfield - Kirkburton - Skelmanthorpe - Clayton West - West Bretton - Calder Grove - Wakefield Probably changed many times operator, routes, times and numbers...we are always complaining today but I bet it was as bad back then
