I'm use to taking photos from outside of bus company depots but I was wondering if anyone knows of any bus companys that will allow you on their premises assuming you ask and your wearing a High-Viz , to take some pictures of the buses?
Cheers

Seems to be difficult getting round depots these days due to all the H&S issues, insurance etc. At one time you could get round most depots. I guess it's pot luck now. If you pick a quiet time (Not a lot of vehicle movements) and drop lucky with who is on duty you can get round some depots. As you note a hi vis vest is a must these days. The smaller independants are more amicable, I've found it difficult to get round Arriva depots, easier with First. Also some will take you round but are not always happy for you to take pictures. I guess it's because they don't want any evidence that they have let you in!
Some companies will let you round if you write to them and pre arrange a day / time to visit.

If you turn up to Volvo Crossroads most times if you ask politely they will let you in that's if you aren't going to anything stupid e.g. start a fire. Only if you would like to go in Crossroads some time and have a look at the vehicles in there.

If you want to get photos at HJC then I would stand outside at about 14:30 till 16:00 as if you go into the depot you can only photo the buses at the front because the are parked close tougher.

Centrebus are fine with most depots. Waterloo seems to be a bit iffy about it i have asked on 3 occasions and they say you need written permission and for it to be on a Sunday, which i guess is less vehicle movements.

I think it should be allowed in all depots as long as you're sensible, wear a hi vis & have someone to take you around. Sundays are usually best for any depot as it is quiet. If I want to get some depot shots, its always on Sundays. More buses to photo & pretty dead with staff etc.

So all bus companies and operators should now employ a person at every depot just to show bus enthusiasts around. I would think people at bus depots would have better things to do with their time, say running a bus company for example?

Crossroad's Volvo seem to be fine about picture taking when the vehicle is stood or parked away from the main workshop's. However they do not like people taking photo's when the subject vehicle is moving, Nor do they allow any photography in the workshop. They are very rigid on this rule, And will escort people off site found to be breaking it.

Driver on break for example.

Well like I say, anyone who's not too busy.
When I went into Geldard's the other week & asked politely & they gave us a hi-vis & let us around

York Pullman are very friendly as are Just Travel. Transdev and First are a no-no on the issue.

That's nice of Geldard's, Pullman & Just Travel. Maybe because they're small companies, they're not too hard on us.

Glenn Coaches in York are a bit funny tho as are Reliance. I have been on the Reliance premises after asking for permission. I've also been to John Smith & Sons and Abbotts of Leeming. These also let me on their premises when I asked.
