Hi. As I'm not old enough to remember Yorkshire Rider in the green & cream days, could someone explain to me the routes & where they were based at the time in Leeds (and general vehicles used for each route)

From what i remember they had a depot at Torre Road which caught fire in 1995 (i think), don't remember routes much but the 4 which is FTR used to be Atlanteans, Metrobuses , Scanias, Olympians. Everything was mixed and matched.

Routes are pretty much the same as today although there have been big changes in some districts such as South Leeds for example, today's 12 and 13 used to be a whole mix of routes, some of which ventured through the estates such as the Broom estate which today is not served as deeply, nowadays it's only the fringes along Belle Isle Road/the Raylands/Stourton Grange that serve the Broom estate. These routes were numbered 10, 11, 12, 19, 19A, 21, 23, 23A and there also used to be a 22 which is the Leeds-Belle Isle section of today's 74. The one common similarity is that these routes and today's 12/13/13A serve both the northern suburbs of Roundhay/Moortown/Brakenwood/Gladhow and South Leeds areas of Hunslet/Belle Isle/Middleton.
Torre Road in YR days was served much better than today by the 47 and there used to be a full Ring Road circular route (8/9 every hour each) and an inner city circular (61/62 every half hour each), big difference on today! Additionally, Temple Newsam used to be served daily by the 47 and routes out to Otley and Ilkley along Rawdon/Yeadon were ran by a different operator before YR took them over, prior to that, YRs boundry out that way was Horsforth. Headingley had a YR depot for a while before that became Kirkstall, and there used to be a depot out Middleton and Seacroft in Metro days in which YR shut down both when they were formed from Metro.

From My Experience of Yorkshire Rider Most Overground Routes still exist, but with add ons. I Have a 1999 Map of Leeds, still in good condition, Thus helps me remind of near rider days found it in xmas tidy up. remember 15/16/17 combination. Bradford (15) - Farsley - Leeds - Seacroft. The 4 went up Direct York Road, (Whinmoor-Seacroft-Leeds-Pudsey). 49 was 41, but ran Bramley to Seacroft Bus station via todays route 50. original 50 ran to Monkswood Gate. 42/42A ran to Seacroft after Fearnville Via Asket Avenue on todays 50A. 74/75/76 Moor Grange- Middleton. I could go on forever as well. ;D

One other big difference between First and YR is that YR in Leeds operated out to Wakefield by way of tendered 187 journeys (Middleton-Wakefield) and the nightrider (Leeds-Wakefield) as well as venturing commercially onto other West Riding teretory by way of the 7 to Rothwell every half hour Mon to Sat. They also had a base in Wakefield which was responsible for services between Wakefield and Doncaster. I don't think there have been any other differences except for odd routes here and there that are different.

When headingley was open Kirkstall was known as "Kirkstall works" where all maintenance work was carried out. Then headingley closed and all moved to Kirkstall. Another thing in YR day was the identity on buses to identify their depots. They had codes on the ticket machines. BMY for bramley, HEAD for headingley then KIRK for Kirstall and Forgot what Torre Road had was it T ROAD or T RD then followed by C.ROW.

Parts of 1999 Leeds Bus Map. I thought it was in good condition, but found out My younger Brother got his hands on it and ruined it . heres parts of it. I havent had time to scan in the document fully, but will do soon, despite the bad condition of the map.

Oh wow! I remember the 41. I have a timetable for that dated 6th June 1999!!! Thanks a lot guys! Oh, and I saw my first Yorkshire Rider at Dewsbury, so I asked the owner to put on 41 Seacroft for a picture: www.flickr.com/photos/jake31804/6973928827/in/photostream/It's been a while since I saw that desti. I remember an Atlantean in LCL livery when Royales were coming in on the 50s.

What gets me is the amount of services up one corridor compared to today's amount of services! Of course there is less, but much more frequent and I'm guessing a little reliable then then! Also the amount of services to one area and all the different variants of those services.
63 a/b for example, Black Princes student services I'm guessing!? What was the difference between the a & b variant?
Why did they need a evening 97 student service? When the 95 was perfectly sufficient? Also I'm guessing the 97/95 served weetwood, and 28 up the ring road? What was the a variant for? Termination of service in town instead of Clarence dock!? So many questions!
And why did they need a 732/33/34/36 service? The 32/36 i understand went to different ways between Rawdon x roads & Morrison's at guiseley! But what was the difference of the 34/33.

Difference between 733 and 734 was one went via Westfield and the other didn't (33 did, 34 didn't I believe). I think the 736 served Westfield during the day and 733 on a night. The 734 ran during the day to Ilkley whilst the 733 did this on a night, something complicated like this anyway.

The 32 did the 33 current route today, while the 36 did the current 33a route today.
Just don't get the need for the 33/34. I'm sure the 732 served menston, so during the day you'd have the 32/36 whilst on a night you'd have the 34/36!?

Ah thanks for that, have managed to work out the difference. 732 ran via Westfield to Otley during the day and the 734 ran via Westfield to Ilkley again during the day. The 733 ran direct along the A65 missing Westfield during the day and running via Westfield on a night. The 736 ran every 20 mins via Yeadon to Otley whilst the 735 ran only a couple of journeys via Yeadon and West Chevin Road (think this may have ran hourly at some point via this route as well).
