Volvo B9TLs from First Rotherham. Reported the other day on the sister forum for South Yorkshire; 37246 - 37257 are to move to York from Rotherham. The vehicles at Rotherham are to be replaced by B9TL vehicles moving from Sheffield - which in turn are been replaced with ex London Dennis Tridents. No news on what is happening to the FTRs from York however. Original Post:X78 set to get an upgrade, well sort of..... « Thread Started on Feb 12, 2012, 7:14pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Latest in the rumour mill is, thanks to the plans announced by First Yorkshire regarding the FTR in York being scrapped, there will be some cast-offs moving from Midland Road to York and these are said to be the following 12 B9TLs - 37246 - 37257. In return, Midland Road are set to gain 37487 - 37498 from Olive Grove. 37487 - 37490 are all in service now from Midland Road. It's suggested in the latest issue of Buses mag that the York FTR's are going to have a refurb and be transferred to West Yorkshire.

Although these B9TLs will not be new to York, they will be more modern than the current StreetCars. I just commiserate residents of Sheffield who are losing some modern buses in favour of others probably 7 years older.

Hang on a mo, I think the 'rumour' spreading around about the 72 having some FTRs on it might be true by the looks of it, after all it's a straight route so ideal for these things and Bradford drivers have been seen taking a good look at one of these. The only draw back is Leeds bus station, maybe they'll curtail the route at Eastgate or only operate to the bus station every 16 mins.

They could use the current number 4 stop outside the bus station, maybe fit a new larger bus shelter to accomodate the extra passengers.

If it is true about the 72, then a circular route around Leeds, like Arriva do with the 163/166, 167/168 services, would probably be the practical route. What route it would take is open for debate.

Well as this is only a rumour shouldn't it be moved to the canteen section of the forum. As for FTR appearing on the 72 it does seem practical. However i'd rather see the service recieve the treatment just like the X84/110, and the X6 to see treatment ala 36, Stagecoach Gold, X43/44. But thats another story for another day.

I've seen what happened to the reliability on the 4 since the FTRs came in, I don't want that on my route!! On a completeley un-related matter, does anyone know where one could get hold of a load of grenades...? *ahem*... (shifty eyes)

it was, I can definitely justify it, Many times on an evening ive waited an Hour for a number 4 evening journeys are the worst, especially from Boar Lane. My Mum used to catch a 21.30 bus from Pudsey back to home on Late shifts. That journey ran 60% Of the time, not actually hitting bus targets, back from a period from 2002 to 2010. even before the likes of FTR's , this was when Roe Olympians , Altanteans and Striders were running on it (Dont have anything against the type of bus, I do have w get a "GHOST" bus, on the next bus display)
( A bit of a rant, but still the 4's reliablity is similar, the FTR's are an improvement, brought something new to the Leeds, but service levels still the same)

I just commiserate residents of Sheffield who are losing some modern buses in favour of others probably 7 years older. Rotherham will be quite happy to get rid of these vehicles apparently, vandalised to hell, nothing but problems at the minutes with breakdowns/VORs and very high mileage. But that's what you get when they work such a high profile route. Time for them to have a nice quiet life now in York... ;D

The ftrs - if they will be called that after the refurb - will go on the 72s either stored at Bramley or Bradford & Bradfords B9TLs which are currently branded for the 72s are supposed to go to York. That's what I'm told. Anyone know on liveries/brands for the Streetcars/B9TLs?

They should put them on a route to PVS with no return journey. I don't like the design and they were far too expensive.
Double decks over bendies any day in the UK. Bendies are for mainland Europe.

Read in buses magazine today that First are not happy with fuel consumption when these vehicles are setting off from bus stops or other standing starts and that they're looking for a suitable route for all FTRs, whether that includes those on the Leeds number 4 I'm not sure. Would the 72 be a more suitable route for these, it's certianly straight and apart from Leeds Road it wouldn't involve a road with a significant gradient requiring power.

It has been reliably posted on the SY forum that the FTRs are moving across to Manchester from York. 07 plated B9s still expected to move from Rotherham to York for the replacement of the FTRs. Indeed most are now devoid of X78 branding and ready for transfer.
It is believed the FTRs from York will move to Hunslet Park for refurbishment, given Rotherham have a large backlog of ex London vehicles at the moment, prior to transfer to Manchester.

Bet Manchester are happy with that if it's true. They don't seem to be fans of the far better Scania OmniCity bendies, Cardiff Bus being the only bendy operator which seems to want more.
