I'm sure the new ticket machines will be warmly welcomed in West Yorkshire. Will be nice to get a more modern, clearer ticket on the bus. Plus, the ability of payment with contactless debit/credit cards on First services (also following in the footsteps of Arriva with mobile ticketing). Finally, First West Yorkshire step into the 21st Century with its tickets machines. Wonder how long we'll have to wait for them to arrive to West Yorkshire. The press release says from the autumn, so could be any time within the next few months. Also means you get the same type of ticket from First WY and First Manchester buses on the 184. You can get some confused looks from people in Greater Manchester when they get a ticket on First WY's 184, particularly when they're unaware of the joint operation of the Huddersfield-Manchester service. Would imagine that the new ticket machines will probably be similarly welcomed in Manchester too, as there have been a few problems with reliability on First Manchester's ticket machines. Seen a few occasions of ticket machines being swapped due to a faulty one needing to be replaced. Plus, First Manchester might be seen as being left behind Stagecoach with their smartcard ticketing and Arriva with their m-ticketing.

Don't Transdev and Arriva have the Wayfarer 3 machines fitted?

Yes they do, nearly every operator in West Yorkshire has them with a few having the older and more reliable Wayfarer 2's

I wouldn't mind them! And I'm glad that they are finally upgrading! I think arriva and centrebus will follow for competition purposes...

I don't think a bus ticket machine would be much use to keep the traffic wardens at bay This must mean that Arriva is the only national operator still using Wayfarer 3s. The TGXs in most parts of the North West don't have smartcard readers. Those that do appear to be owned by the local transport authority.

Does this mean the concessionary passed can swipe against the machine like they do in the northeast and Blackpool so it registers that a pass has been shown. Hope this makes sense.

It is a magnetic plate on the top and it recognises the magnetic strip on the cards... even through thick wallets etc

Placed on the reader you mean? Does this mean the reader will be assessable, no security screen in the way? I foresee loads on elderly concession passes being dropped from frail old fingers

Remember First Bradford already operate ticket machines with smart card readers so there shouldn't be any problem regarding security screens.

I can already think of a few buses that will have problems fitting them in because of the screens in the way.

Wonder if they will redesign the weekly wallets to suit the new ticket style?
