What ever happened to British Bus publishing. They did a brilliant range of handbooks and did Yorkshire versions every 2-3 years but since have not made any.

They're still around, you can certainly pick up copies from Ian Allan bookshops. They do an English major groups and notable independents series.

The last Yorkshire edition I have seen and got was the one with Harrogate & District 36 branded Royale. Yeah have noticed that the English major groups and independents have more or less replaced the Yorkshire editions. They should redo one as now there are a few more companies around now!

Dont be silly, we're expected to know everything and produce fleetlists and handbooks too.

The problem is the British Bus Books retail at around £19 these days and almost as soon as they come out they are already out of date, as fleets are changing weekly. The last British Bus Book i bought was the smaller independents a couple of years ago which cost me £17.95, and as soon as i recieved it alot of the information was out of date. Not sure when the next Independents/smaller groups books are to be published but British bus still produce Stagecoach/First/Arriva and Go-ahead books yearly.

They are definitely overpriced books and it's a big shame they don't bother with the Yorkshire handbook anymore.

They are definitely overpriced books and it's a big shame they don't bother with the Yorkshire handbook anymore. During the late 80's and early 90's when i was at school, i could never afford to buy them then, and recently though the joy's of Ebay ive managed to acquire quite a few in really good condition at very low prices, and they are actually really good books with some great photo's in, but are certainly overpriced when the psv circle produces much more detailed versions for half the cost. Does anyone know what the 'Little Red book' is like. Its produced every year by Ian Allen and apparently gives details of all bus and coach ops in the uk, including MD's and ED's of each company, but does it actually list fleets?

OK, so complain that they don't do what you want, and also complain that what they do do is too expensive. You seem to want everything for nothing. How much do you expect a full colour book of 100s of pages to cost?

Quite poor knowledge too in some parts, they still had Atlantean SWB287L at First York in the fleetbook in 2007.

It is just a directory of operators and suppliers etc to the industry. Coach and Bus Week publish their own which is free to magazine subscribers.

I would love the 1993 edition of the Yorkshire bus handbook but it's hard to find.

New versions of the 3 English books by BBP (Smaller Groups, Independants and Coaches) are due to be published this Summer.
The 2011 versions of the big bus groups are starting to come through. The First one is already available.
HB Publishing do a Yorkshire bus fleetlist book, which is available now.

Here's an idea... as well as producing books, why don't these publishers lauch a subscription website that is kept up to date with fleet changes? I assume they have some agreement with operators to keep them updated.

I assume they have some agreement with operators to keep them updated. All the British Bus Publishing Handbooks have always advised that the best way to keep the fleetlists as up to date as possible is to join the PSV Circle, which is very similar to what you say about an online subscription website.

The HB Publishing books have never been that good either, ive bought a couple and the information is somewhat patchy, plus theres no photo's. GB Bus Group which has sold the HB Books through there site for a number of years have apparently become dis-satisfied with the fleetbooks and have started producing there own. Ive read on another forum that a Stagecoach Handbook will be the first but they will be making regional yearly publications as well. For me i always found the TAG fleetbooks the most upto date and over the years have been as, if not more usefull than the British Bus Books, its just ashame they haven't produced anything recently.

What about TAG fleetbooks you can get at rallies ? I think there old copies. I have several from around 1992 till 2002 and there very informative, however they haven't produced any for awhile, apparently there huge database was lost due to a computer virus and there slowly building it back up. I think they have produced larger company books in recent years but no regional [or area books as there known] for a good few years now.
