If i win the lottery t'nite it wouldn't take long for me to make my mind up to buy one for preservation when AY finally dispose of them. We can't let all of these fine buses end up at the mercy of the cutters torch.

Oh definitely be great to preserve a Spectra! One of the best double deckers ever IMHO. Up there with the Atlanteans, Olympians and Ailsas. Wonder what a Spectra would of looked like in Black Prince colours? could just see them up and down Churwell Hill on the X49!

Despite the influx of new Geminis, I doubt from any reports on this forum that any of these Spectras have left Belle Isle. When riding Arriva buses anywhere, I notive that the grey Cowie moquette has tended to wear less quickly than the blue Arriva moquette. When I come to Leeds next week, I would therefore prefer to ride one of these Spectras (preferably on a route to Leeds) than a low-floor example.

I came to the Leeds area as planned, and my Spectra was 629 on route 481. As expected, it had grey seat moquette but I was surprised to see yellow polls and grabrails. I hadn't been on one for a few tears but I thought that, like other early Arriva deliveries, the batch had grey seats and green polls and grabrails.

Much water has been passed over the bridge since Met1511's post . How are 624-641 getting on? Are they limited to schools or are they still in regular use? A suggestion I made earlier this year isnt likely to happen now as Arriva NW 3614-8 , which are step DB250s but with NC Palatine bodies are going to Arriva NE, probably as Scania d/d replacements.

Still in regular use although very rare to see one out on Sundays. Saw one on Friday morning in my neighbourhood (50% certain it was 636, (could have been 638 or 639 though).

Glad they are still around. As the Yorkshire fleet is more modern than average for Arriva, I reckon they will stay until other pre-LF double-deckers elsewhere within Arriva have gone. As early LF single-deckers need replacing sooner, such as R-reg Darts, this could be another 3 years or so away. Some may be retained until all LF Spectras have been refurbished, although this is already happening gradually. I doubt the step Spectras will operate anywhere else within Arriva now.

I have herd most (if not all) of these are going next year when the hybrids come, I cant see all of these going as there are only 12 hybrids coming and there are 18 step entrance spectras.

I was told that the renowns were transferring to Wakefield and with the Commanders that have just come over are meant to be replacing the spectras...but it still wouldn't replace them all so it can't be right.

My bright hope is that the hybrid double-deckers enable Tempos to replace any remaining DAF-ALX300s or displace other single-deckers for cascade elsewhere within Arriva. Arriva do have some older double-decks elsewhere needing replacement before the Spectras.

Problem is met 1511- the only place where older step entrance buses are is DOWN SOUTH. This is fantasy I know, but perhaps 640/641 can stay in Yorks with the rest going to the Shires/Southern Counties as I ve stated previously. But I accept this is HERESY!

If I were on Facebook, I would start a Facebook campaign to save the Spectras in Yorkshire. I would hope for some midlife low-floor buses to cascade elsewhere to replace older buses, even if it is single-deckers that are replaced. I must read your thread about remaining non-LF buses within Arriva to see or quote cases in point.
