Has anybody with a Fotopic account had any contact from Fotopic regarding the issues over the seach facility or more importantly the site being down? I know i tried to contact Fotopic a while ago regarding some issues and never got a reply, im just glad i dont have any subscriptions to them anymore.

They might be having problems there trying to fix, but it takes nothing to tell there customers/users whats going on. There quick enough to take money from you when your subscribing but ignore emails when your complianing.

It's 2011 problems shouldn't occur, flickr never have problems, this forum never have problems. Fotopic is one of the only sites i know with such a big number of issues.

Its 2011, photo sharing should be more modern. Now Fotopic has always struck me as to something produced to the basic standard. Nothing more than a shoe string budget and laughing at the profits. Think the future is flickr, far more modern what with groups and contacts etc.

It's shocking how much people are paying to upload photos to fotopic, especially now it appears to have sunk. I wonder if it would be possible to do something with facebook, maybe creating a private group to pool the photos or something - although anonymity would be an issue.

I know someone who has over 10 Fotopic galleries and makes his living selling photo's from these sites. The fact that the site is down means hes loosing both his income and his subscription. Having spoken to him today, hes emailed Fotopic twice and heard nothing back, has tried calling them with no joy and is left wondering exactly whats going on, and further more whether it will ever come back online again. Flikr is a good site but to some it just dosen't have the same properties as Fotopic, its a shame no-one has come up with a similar photo veiwing site to Fotopic, its badly needed!

Photo's on flickr are too small. Fotopic when working is a perfect website.

Photo's on flickr are too small. Fotopic when working is a perfect website. I used to think that ;D Click the photo, click on the enlarged photo - this will direct you to the slideshow page, then click 'view all sizes' in the top right corner. Example - www.flickr.com/photos/steve_kirk/4544095024/sizes/o/in/photostream/Only trouble is, theres no need to then buy it off anyone...

Wrong, You can enlarge photo's on Flikr to there original size but some flikr gallery owners disable the right click/save option so although you can see larger images you carn't always save them.

Ive just been informed that as of March 2011 Fotopic and other sites owned by the same group have ceased trading. Dont know how true these comments are but it looks like Flikr is the only way foward.

But that will be the same with fotopic? The point that I'm trying to make is, I can't see why flickr is inferior. Even if you could download the images there's nothing stopping someone putting a watermark on it.

But that will be the same with fotopic? Well yes and no. With Fotopic very few of the sites have the 'full size' option, so the image you see on screen is it, where as with Flikr you can always enlarge the image your looking at to the size it was uploaded to, but in some cases you carn't right click and save.

1000's of people's hardwork all down the drain. It's a big massive shame. Im really upset, i wish they have a bus photo site like airliners.net or jetphotos.net where you can search on a similer system.

Yes it was poorly run but was a great source, not only for bus images but the fact you could pick up information as well. It was suggested that the servers were simply down, but it dosen;t take 3 days to fix or renew servers.

You haven't checked that ever reliable source that is wikipedia have you? I have had a look on Companies House to search out Snappy Designs who had taken over Fotopic back in 2008 and they're still solvent.

Im really gutted because James Stoker had a fantastic album of bus photo's as did many other people. I think something like a jetphotos type site should be launched.

Reading on the Staffs and Merseyside Yahoo group, Joel Rowbottom (fotopic founder) has set up a new photo hosting site which will be live in the not too distant future. pikfu.com/

Nope i read it off photo forum, and the info apparently comes from a Fotopic gallery owner, but thats i used the words IF ITS TRUE! as normally these rumours do turn out to no more than waffle. However apparently normally Fotopic always warns gallery owners about site down time and members are often given extensions to there subscriptions. It also seems that the site hasn't been maintained for some time. The 'buy copies' facility has been down for several months, and the search facility has also been down for a while, and Fotopic has not responded to emails from gallery owners. Now im not daft, if the site was simply down becuase of servers or repairs, why the silence from Fotopic.

Well if they dont want people assuming they have gone under they should have the decency to contact there subscribers and let them know whats going on intstead of keeping them all in the dark. As JC mentioned yesterday, some people spend alot of money uploading photos to Fotopic, and for what, over 3 days of downtime with no explanation as to why.

Lets hope this Picfu is going to be better, I think all of the Fotopic owners will have their sites moved across to the new one & I bet a lot of people won't trust them anymore though and move to Flickr.

I think one of the big factors will be cost, ie if it costs twice as much to have large gallery's on Picfu. The problem seems to be alot of people subscribe to these sites on a yearly basis, but what happend when the site does go down and never re-appears again. Will be interesting to see what happens ihe coming days, i certainly miss Fotopic though!
