Bit of topic but anyone noticed how the search page on fotopic never works properly. It's frustrating when you try find bus photo's. Flickr isn't as big.

The whole seach facility is down now, you carnt even search for collections/galleries. The buying photo's button has also been down for months, when you click on it it just takes you back to the title page.

I would second that, ive spent a fortune in the past buying copies of photo's from various fotopic sites, the quality of the images are very very poor, and despite trying to contact fotopic by email, phone and post ive never got any where.

Buying photos off fotopic is where you are going wrong, often the owners of sites post very reduced "display only" versions of their photographs on their sites, which may look good on your monitor, but ultimately due to their heavily reduced file size (done purely by many gallery holders to save on space used) look no good on fotopic ordered goods, as fotopic only have access to the low quality version that was uploaded to them!
Next time you wish for a print off a site, I'd suggest contacting the owner of the picture or pictures you want! They'll have the full size, and the quality of any subsequent prints made from these will differ greatly from those from fotopic!
Most gallery owners offer their work for sale, some have their own prefered way of getting a print or photo to you!
I am lead to believe that fotopic's search problem is due to the server being down! It has been taken offline for repairs!

It'll bring some pics up.

A couple have even gone as far as sending me copies for free, which is always very helpful, however there are one or two who are less obliging which is a shame. I certainly wouldn't waste any money buying through Fotopic again. As for the search facility, it goes down quite alot and last time was down for quite a few months.

Flickr is ok, but no way half as big as fotopic. Its not no but it seems much better run, plus as long as photographers add the correct tags to photo's, searches can bring up much better results. Ive noticed a couple of well known fotopic gallery owners switching to Flikr recently, you just have to dig a little deeper on Flikr to find what your looking for.

The one let down with Flickr is that most users do not use the date posting options - all too many photos from years ago are stated as being taken yesterday as opposed from having the actual date shown or date of posting as an alternative. I did try to point this out to one poster who decided to block me from posting on any of his photos - the photo in question was of the sole Transdev York livered bus on its delivery from Lancashire which was posted after it had entered sevice in York with the livery tweaked to include Transdev over the door.

For me I use Flickr and make sure that all my photo's are well tagged, I find then that it is easy to search on the Flickr site itself but also on Google or any other search engine. As mayneway says the only problem is when folks don't add the tags. In almost two years on Flickr I can't ever think of a time when any part of the site has not been available.

Is Flicker any good? I have two fotopic sites but with continual problems with the system (overall down time, problems with image thumbnails, non functional search facility) I have been considering Flicker for a while now.
I have looked around on Flicker and it does look good. My only criticism is that it can become quite complex with photo linking and tagging.
I am guessing Flicker is free to use. Paying £45 a year for fotopic is quite alot when the level of service is so low.

I like Flickr, I find it easy to use with a good community & at only £15ish for unlimited photo uploads a year, it isn't bad.

It is a little complicated when adding photo's and tags but as its been pointed out in all the years ive been using Flikr the site or search facility has never been down, one thing i have noticed though that is at times the site is somtimes a little slow but its no where near as bad as Fotopic. Another postive about Flikr is that you can save other peoples images to your favourites list and also add other photographgers/members as contacts, plus theres no watermarks to spoil decent images.

With Flickr too, you can communicate with your contacts better than Fotopic. I have met quite a few people from Flickr

All sounds good to me.
I think watermarks are a good idea, it helps to prevent copyright issues. I added a watermark to all my fotopic pictures (and the information across the bottom of each picture) following problems with people taking the pictures and passing them off as their own. Overall copyright looks to be dealt with better on fotopic then flicker (most likely to do with being able to buy them on fotopic).
The main reason I have stayed with fotopic is that I don't think its possible to set out a flicker site with collections for each operator (like I have done with my fotopic site), unless people know other wise.
Will do some more looking at flicker, I may yet take the plunge to swap from fotopic.

P.S. G547VVB, I just spent a few minutes looking at your flicker site while typing this post. Some very good pictures there.

Fotopic not working at all this morning. All you get is "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find davidsnonrailwaypics.fotopic.net" when trying to load any fotopic site. Hopefully just a temporary glitch and things will be sorted soon. But in other news I have now created my own flicker site. Available at www.flickr.com/photos/davidsnwtransportI have uploaded a small collection of pictures I took at Bury Interchange recently. I'm still working my way through the site at the moment, working out what does what and how things can be set up and laid out, but I'm getting the hang of it. Feel free to have a look. As I still have just under a year left of my fotopic subscription, I'll be concentrating my efforts on my two fotopic sites for a while longer yet but will be sorting out my flicker site so that its ready for the change over when the time comes. To point out to everyone too, If you have hundreds of photos Flickr is a lot cheaper, as you get unlimited photo uploads for £15ish a year but with Fotopic you pay for the amount of photos you upload.
