My mate who works for GC said that its a surprise when anyone get on at Ponty, so if that's the case then it makes a lot of sense.

Grand Central trains stop at Monkhill rather than the more convenient Tanshelf.

If GC discontinue the stop at Pontefract, what will be the longest journey we shall be able to make using a West Yorkshire Bus & Rail Day Rover?

I assume you were looking for longest distance rather than longest time. If you get up early there is the 6:55 ex Leeds 254 to Wakefield which is not scheduled to arrive untill 9:00 if it is on time. There could longer ones, that was the first route I thought of

In terms of time, I don't think there's any journey within West Yorkshire longer than that 254 journey. In terms of length, there's the 7.22am Northern Rail service from Selby to Manchester Victoria, which runs between Micklefield and Todmorden via Leeds, Bradford and Halifax or the 6pm from Selby to Manchester Victoria running between Garforth and Walsden.

I used to work with someone who lives at Sandal and once missed his 425 from Bradford to and saw a 253 with the destination showing only Wakefield (typically uninformative) and, not knowing the route, thought it would take a similar time to get to Wakefield. How wrong he was.
