It's a stupid question but a thought i had today. Was looking through D Stazickers photo's today and it made me think "what if Yorkshire rider was never bought and merged into first". A stupid question i know, but what would we see today and seen in the past.
Would we have had branding?
What about the fleet judging by how they were in the 90's & 80's with fleet renewal would we have had two fleet renewals this past 10 years if they were around?
What about the routes?
and most importantly who would of bought black prince? Yorkshire rider maybe? Or would have first/stagecoach bought it and expanded it to compete with Yorkshire rider? Expand the depot and buy another one such as at hunslet park or cross green. Maybe it will of been gobbled up by arriva to help there presence within Leeds but mostly Morley.
All this is based on a hypothetical situation but i was just wondering. Mind wonders when its bored i guess. Anyway discuss ....

Probably would have bought more Northern Counties bodied Volvo Olympians, follow by B7TLs Presidents and B9TLs Enviro 400s for the double deck fleet. Single deckers would have been more striders on Volvo and Scania chassis followed by B10BLE ALX300 and Enviro300s Small buses Dennis Darts Alexander Dash follow by ADL Darts with ALX200 and Enviro 200 bodies. Bradford would more or less remained as a Double Deck operated network and all the Leyland Olympians would have seen out their service lifes in West Yorkshire instead being sent allover the UK to other First fleets

Interesting thought, but as YR made money it was always inevitably going to be bought out by a major. I personally think if First hadnt bought it, we probably would have been gobbled up by Brian Souters empire, just think the streets of Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Halifax filled by beachball liveried ADL or Scania E400s MAN E300s and ADL/Dart E200s. At least First has given us some variety, i mean weve now got Volvo B7RLE/Wright Eclipse Volvo B7TL/B9TL/Gemini'. Couldnt win could we?.

Alternatively, as Yorkshire Rider was making plenty of money they might have bought out some former NBC and municipal companies. Ironically, YR was taken over by Badgerline just before the explosion in bus company takeovers in 1994. Badgerline might therefore have deliberately been eliminating a potential purchaser of companies they were themselves after!
