Coverage in the Metro today about a story of a woman from Bradford who is force to catch 12 buses a day (6 in the morning, 6 in the afternoon) to take 3 of her children to 3 different schools in the city, setting her back £50 a week on bus fares. *363/622/623/626/645 Manchester Road-Bradford *620 Bradford-Haworth Road *620 Haworth Road-Duckworth Lane *617/618 Duckworth Lane-Whetley Hill *617/618 Whetley Hill-Bradford *363/622/623/626/645 Bradford-Manchester Road www.metro.co.uk/news/845853-the-eight-hour-school-run-on-12-buses

3 x £8 + £18.50 = £42.50. Alright, not far off £50, but still an incorrect figure.
She's having a pop at the council primarily though, not being able to offer a home close to their schools, or having a school thats local to their new home available is a common problem. But this isn't to be discussed here.

This was covered on Calendar as well.
£50 on fares is obviously tabloid nonsense.
FirstDay Bradford £3.30 x 5 = £16.50 Schoolplus MetroCard £8 x 3 = £24 = £40.50 obviously rounded up to £50!

Am 100% sure some of them would be entitled to the zero fare pass issued by metro as the journeys are over 3 miles long. So therefore she would only pay for herself, and her child she drops off at school just before she gets back.

Anyone know any other 13 year olds who are accompanied on the school bus by their parents? A 3 hour school run, I wonder what times the different schools start and finish. I've moved from it being a bit OTT to a lot OTT.
Were the children not at different schools before the house move as well, how long did it take then, this is looking more like fantasy now.

I was allowed to go to school on my own when I was 9 - 10 & that involved a 4 min bus journey down Boothtown Road. I was allowed to travel & wander round Halifax Town on my own at 11 & I was allowed to places like Huddersfield on my own when I was 13. Some parents are really cautious about their kids if you ask me!

Totally agree with what everyone is saying here. Its abit of a joke of an article in a joke of a paper - designed to interrupt the sales of a rival paper.
Lets not read too much into it!

I used to catch three buses to school every morning and two more home at night, I didn't need to though, just wanted to using my free bus pass.

I was allowed to use the bus on my own when i started at secondary school (Regent Vs if I was lucky or PDR1/Park Royals) adn then by 13 was going far and wide - ish .
But that was the early 1970s wether it would be safe today is another matter, however think this woman needs to buy a metro card !
