What did surprise me about this change was the withdrawal of the peak time extras (one inbound in the morning, one outbound in the evening peak). These were always busy services - perhaps it's a knock-on effect of First losing school services? Could this mean more peak extras (especially evening peak) might be cut?

the only section of route missed out is the hallfield lane area which is the least used of the whole route and is predominantly oaps and disabled passholders who dont pay,so why would a bus company want to drive round this section wasting fuel searching for non existent passengers

Even the morning peak journeys towards Wetherby were full and standing on a decker, last time I used it on a journey leaving Leeds around 0800 I would estimate that we left at least 30 people behind at stops! I thought about writing a letter of complaint to put more peak hour journeys on as this is not good enough for a half hourly service!

I do think the X98 should be half-hourly through the day with the 99 still being hourly. As you rightly point out people commute in both directions on this route and it's quite busy maybe apart from the middle of the day. Doubt it would happen though!
