The little man inside stuck his pin in the wrong hole....... But are you really that surprised, Or there must be a lot of demand for Friday nights in Doncaster so up goes the price.......

Cracked it now it's all down to First's Frog Doncaster is just two hops, while Brough is a hop, skip and jump therefore the fare to Doncaster will be higher 2 hops while there is only one hop to Brough hence it is cheaper.

The fare to Doncaster will be an 'Any Permitted' fare meaning it's valid on any train companies trains, whereas the £40 ticket to Brough is routed 'Hull Trains Only' which as it is less flexible, it's cheaper.

If you specify 'Hull Trains Only' routing, the off peak single to Doncaster is £39.

The ticket isn't Hull trains only, theres a change involved at Doncaster and it says you get on the 15.10 East Coast ex KGX.

Only thing i can think of is the ticket to Doncaster is an Off Peak Single (valid on any train within the off peak period) and to Brough is an Advance (valid that East Coast train only, No Break Of Journey allowed).

And if you want to make REALLY BIG savings, split the tickets up. Get a ticket from Leeds to Manchester return then get one from manchester to the airport return rather than getting one ticket. You can do this in advance and can stay on the same train. The same applies if your going to Stoke, split the ticket at Manchester, you save £10 doing it that way to Stoke. Another one is Leeds to Nottingham, split it at Sheffield and Derby and you save £7, again you can stay on the same through train or use different trains to do each leg. If your going to Windemere, go via Skipton and split the ticket at Lancaster. It's a bit longer than via Manchester but it's cheaper and you can always spend a couple of hours in Lancaster.
