Northern Rail have been in discussion with local council officials about making improvements to the train service between Harrogate and Leeds. The proposals would see a train every 20 minutes between Harrogate and Leeds with some trains not stopping at Burley Park and Headingley, to speed up services by upto 7 minutes. Also discussed with the potential to install a bus-rail link between Horsforth and the airport for passengers using the line, which may prove useful if the 767 is scrapped next year under the North Yorkshire CC subsidy cuts. www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/localnews/Exclusive-Faster-journeys-in-prospect.6498653.jpHarrogate people are also keen about making rail improvements to the town with more frequent services to York to connect with East Coast trains along with more direct trains to London. www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/localnews/Exclusive-Business-makes-the-case.6496029.jp

Will be tricky to increase services to York with the long sections of single track.

Interesting timing as well with the Harrogate-York route, given that the X54 was withdrawn recently.

Transdev need to wake up and run more express routes to Leeds on the 36 since theirs so much demand with the express routes also running non stop from Harrogate to York. I'm really supprised they haven't picked up on all this demand, they usually respond to customer demands. They have competed successfully with the train to date, they need to up their game and do it now, after all theirs no such thing as a ressession in Harrogate their so rich!

Pretty bad timing that comment with the news about RBS axing its Harrogate call centre. Given the general level of traffic and resultant jams a non-stop Harrogate-York bus would not be that much quicker than the X54 was. As for the 36 they have not seen any need for an express version presumably as for the vast majority the actual door to door time of their journey is actually quicker by the 36 than by the train.
