The Local BBC News have been running a piece stating that train passengers numbers have increased by 6% over the past year. Plus they have invited Philip Hammond to come and look at the overcrowding on peak time services. Metro want to increase the number of carriages on certain trains at peak times to meet the increase in passenger numbers.
I got the impression the report was based on those services out of Leeds rather than right across WY.
The ones I've seen in Wakefield aren't overcrowded perhaps Metro should take a second look at these.

Good news that passenger numbers continue to increase. Many peak services into/out of Leeds are extremely overcrowded, although Northern's complex train diagramming can lead to larger trains on quieter services whilst smaller trains are full on busier services.

Another piece on the BBC News today from Leeds Station
Quoting that of the 100,000 passengers passing through the station about 1/3rd of the peak-time travellers would not have a seat.
One interesting quote was from a lady who said yes she had to stand but it was a bonus that the train did arrive and was on time, show what really matters.
I remember being a regular on the 17:05 from Leeds to Dewsbury and even back in those days when the class 158's were new to the the transpennine it was great when a 3 car unit turned up, I would still have to stand but it would be less crowded. Standing fo a 12 minute journey so what, I might have to stand longer than that just waiting for bus that was running late.
One bonus was never got a "nodding donkey" on that one.........
