First has announced that its Potteries operations are to be wound down. Chester and Rock Ferry depots will be transferring to the Manchester operations whilst Staffordshire operations will form the Midlands business.

I know a few of the Midlands based First Groups are now come together under the First Midlands name, so it makes sense to move First PMT into the Midlands group. With Chester & Wirral transferring to Manchester, does that mean that First Chester & Wirral is a subdivision of First Manchester or will they come together to form First North West?

This means the enlarged First Manchester & Cheshire, or First North West, will be eventual successors to parts of 7 municipal operators (Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton, Wigan and Chester)! I have speculated on Arriva divesting some operations eventually to reduce the cost of Deutsche Bahn's takoever, which could include Birkenhead to First.

From what I gather, Arriva are doing rather well on the Wirral. Some of the cross river services are having frequency increases from next month with the Liverpool-New Brighton/West Kirby routes being increased to every 7/8 mins from every 10 mins.
