Whilst Arriva looks like it is set to fight off Goliath with a bid expected soon from Deutsche Bahn, Stagecoach's Brian Souter has money in the bank which he is eager to spend. The CEO of Stagecoach is featured in The Times' 'Monday Manifesto' where he talks about being ready to make a large acquisition in the form of another transport group. He's not interested in Europe or America which only leaves the UK. He also discusses rail franchises and how the current systems weaknesses have been highlighted in the recession. How less Government intervention, longer franchises and TOCs having more control over the track would make Stagecoach and other groups more likely to invest more in the services they provide. Here is the full article: business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/transport/article7101388.eceOn a different note, if Stagecoach ever was to flirt with aviation. A merger with Ryanair would always be interesting...

Given his recent appointment of Sheffield born Philip White ex National Express, SYPTE and WYPTE does this mean he is interested in National Express

Seeing that Phil White will have plenty of inside knowledge of National Express following his time as its Chief Exec, he could provide additional back-up to enable to Brian Souter to bid for at least parts of National Express again

If it is Nat Ex then surely the megabus brand can be binned, or will the two still run and show profit?
