The latest news reports are now saying the ban in the UK Air Space will stay in force until 7:00 am tomorrow

Looking at press reports it would appear that the 7am time is optomistic as by then the cload will be over europe.
Therefore UK airports may be ok but they wont be able to fly to european destinations.
The yorkshire air ambulance as also been grounded

i doubt the air ambulance would be grounded as they are allowing emergency flights, and the helicopter flies at low level any way....also last time this volcano exploded in 1821 it lasted for 2 years, should be intresting though, also flights not now to resume until 13:00 fri at the earliest....

According to a spokesman for the yorkshire air ambluance which was broadcast on BBC radio sheffield (and other yorkshire stations ) at 1300 hours today the air ambulance was grounded The current report is , as you say , all airports shut till 1300 hours friday - however, looking at some reports they sugest saturday for USA flights then next week europe. Thats if the volcano stops throwing stuff out

Nothing in the sky today until 19:00 at the earliest.
Disruption could linger on well into the week-end.

A continuation of current weather patterns and continuing eruptions could, potentially, mean disruption for a long time! The old internal combustion engine with huge air-filters and suitable air-frames might be the future of very much more expensive, slower and inconvenient air transport! What a frightening prospect!

I have an acquaintance who reckons he is taking his Cessna up tomorrow....isn't the danger of ash ingestion only above a certain altitude?

I have an acquaintance who reckons he is taking his Cessna up tomorrow....isn't the danger of ash ingestion only above a certain altitude? Well the airspace is shut. He can do it if he wants, but he will commit several avation crimes and a nice hefty fine, plus no insurance [so if anything god help it does go wrong, he wont get anything]. Rang multi-flight and my lesson was off, no one is up and the latest news will come at 01:00.

I saw a plane flying over Halifax today, but I suppose it will be an old one with propellors.

Air space shut or not I have seen a couple of light aircraft as well as a helicopter flying overhead in S Y. According to one report I read flying is permitted up to a maximum altitude of 3,000ft.

Aye seen the odd light aircraft.
Ryanair - everything cancelled til Weds. Most airports closed. Poland have opened 4 in the north and centre regions. BA sent an aircraft from Heathrow to Ireland this evening on a test!
