Kirklees Council have come up with plans to build a bus lane on Manchester Road heading out of Huddersfield. The lane will run from the ring road to Longroyd Bridge, which is 600m long and will cost £950,000. Routes that would use it are 181, 182, 183, 184, 185, 303, 304, 328, 353, 356, 357, 363, 393, 394 and 395. Locals aren't happy cos they say it isn't worth the money, but the council and First have said that "a bus-only lane would save a minimum of two minutes per journey at peak times, in the morning and late afternoon." Work on the bus lane will start in June and will also see new traffic lights, CCTV, real-time bus information at bus shelters and £250,000 of road surfacing. www.examiner.co.uk/news/local-west-yorkshire-news/2010/02/06/huddersfield-bus-lane-plan-not-welcomed-86081-25773547/Having travelled on Manchester Road at peak times on the 184, I would have to agree with the locals. It is a lot of money for something that isn't that necessary. You do get held up on traffic on Manchester Road until the Blackmoorfoot Road junction and be about 5 mins late in the end, but usually the buses make up for it later on in the route.

I only got 2 words:
ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS!!!!!!
I mean if one lane is for buses and one for cars erm hello Kirklees the 2nd lane merges in to the first lane and will cause more tailbacks.
Scrap it its not needed

Quite right firstbusmaniacrich, youve taken the words right out of my mouth. I was going to post exactly the same thing.

Calderdale Council could have thought of a better idea..... Don't spend any money at all and leave it how it was.
