Student state obvious about bus travel in survey

Metro recenty held a Youth Transport Conference at Odsal Stadium in Bradford, where they asked school pupils and college students their views on public transport.

Their results show that public transport would be more attractive if bus drivers were more friendly, with more female drivers, fares were cheaper and timetables were more understandable.

It a twoway thing many teenagers I come across on buses talk out loud about their relationships, swear and if their in a large group on a empty double decker they always sit one to a seat

As a 19 year old myself I get rather annoyed by certain teenagers as well who insist on playing loud music usually at the rear of the upper deck especially in London, all they need to do is get some headphones but no, make everyone listen to it as they are selfish and inconsiderate! Its the minority majority thing as usual with society. Drivers have occassionally treated me as "one of them" for no reason (abrupt if unsure of the fare or ignoring your presence or just not acknowledging a thank you when alighting to deliberate lying about the reason for being late/early, refusing to stop) and this really annoys me as I've got more knowledge of the bus industry than they have in most cases! I was a member of our college's union in Somerset representing 9000 students and I along with 11 others organised a meeting of student unions from across the South West of England about issues that affect their peer group including Transport their ideas were far more interesting and radical - renationalisation of the bus industry, withdrawl of the demand responsive transport idea that was becoming a threat to rural routes in Dorset, extension of the county wide all operators student ticket in Somerset to other areas across the border and to non-students and many more.
