With the future closure of Norfolk Gardens, Channing Way & The Tyrls to make way for the City Park project in Bradford, many bus routes will need to be rerouted through the city.
Routes such as the 610-614 cluster, 636/7, 640/641 Buttershaw bound all use these roads as city centre stops. Other buses to pass through are the Free City Bus, 570/1, 576, 616, 662, 846 and I'm sure others I've forgotten. these will all need to find alternative routes.
I've noticed one early change in Bradford, other than the obvious demolition of the old footbridge from Hall Ings to the Interchange. A new layby and bus stop have appeared outside The Lord Clarke pub on Bridge Street.
I'm not sure how this will fit in to the future scheme of things unless buses will be allowed to make a right turn from Bridge Street into Hall Ings in the future.
If this is the case then it may be the new home to Red Line, Orange Line or 610-614. I think the latter is unlikely as this route often see's more than one bus waiting on Channing Way and the layby does not look big enough to accomodate this.
We won't have the full picture until much later in the year as the works on Princes Way will not be complete until October 2010. These works are reported to improve pedestrian crossing across this busy road so that Channing Way can then be closed.
Whatever happens an awful lot of bus routes will be moving around soon.

From Monday the stop at Hall Ings for the 640/641 will be suspended for approx 3 months while a "super shelter" is constructed. In the meantime services will divert from Little Horton Lane into Princess Way,Croft Street and left into Nelson Street, waiting time at a new stop there.
The 645 Will now wait at stop H1 between Jacobs Well roundabout and Channing Way.

There is a new Bus Stop outside the Bus Station when you turn right on Nelson Street too, does anybody know what this is for?

That's the same one, when the 640/641 turns left from Croft Street it will pass the entrance to the Interchange and arrive at that stop.

THERE have been maps published to show the new traffic system but nothing to show the new bus system. The present banned turn from bridge st into hall ings will be relaxed.

I'm guessing the 662 will revert to it's previous routing and go left off Godwin St onto Sunbridge Rd and into the interchange via Bridge Street

In the new road system buses will be able to make the following turns that are currently banned
Bridge Street (Southbound) to Hall Ings (Westbound) Bridge Street (Northbound) to Hall Ings (Westbound) Sunbridge Road (Northbound) to Godwin Street (Southbound) Little Horton Lane (Inbound) to Princes Way (Anti-Clockwise) Broadway (Westbound) to Bridge Street (Southbound)

A previous article in the T&A mentioned new bus stops on Hall Ings, Bridge Street & Broadway but I really can't see how the change to the Broadway/Bridge Street junction will help unless one route is going to do a full circle from Bridge Street into Hall Ings onto Broadway and then back to Bridge Street for a right turn to carry on it's route via Hall Ings.
If so, the way things appear to be shaping up is that the 645 may stay where it's going to be for the next three months at the top of Hall Ings, creating two spaces in the new longer bus stop on Hall Ings. This would leave room for the 640/1, 636 & 610-614 there.
In the other direction, one service, say the 636 could use the new stop on Bridge Street, another say 610-614 could use the new stop on Broadway. That would still leave the third service, 640/641, without a city centre home. One option could be a second new stop on Broadway, although this would be tight with the 607 already in residence there, another option is the stop at the top of Hall Ings but this would mean stopping the 268 and 363 calling there.
This then will only leave the 846 and rerouting of other routes to sort out.
I agree with 142071 re the 662 and think that the Free City Bus could also make this turn and then a right into Hall Ings back to it's normal route.
The 570/571, 576 & 616 can left turn from Nelson Street into Hall Ings and then onto Princes Way to get back to their normal routes.
The interesting part of the above road changes is the Sunbridge Road/Godwin Street change although this maybe just for normal city centre traffic flow rather than a bus necessary change.

I've searched on the Bradford council website and come across the proposed routings
The 570/571/576 are proposed to operate up Sunbridge Road, stopping there (probably at S2) and then turning down Godwin Street. Inbound will be direct via Senior Way
The 610/611/612, 613/614, 636/637, 640/641 & 846 are proposed to operate via Princes Way and Hall Ings
The 615/616 will operate direct to/from the Interchange
The 'super shelter' and the former layover bay on Hall Ings will be enough for north/east services
Apparantly there may be some bus stops at the other side of Hall Ings next to the Sports shop which along with the new one on Bridge Street will deal with west/south services

I think it is almost certain that Hall Ings will be used for all North/Eastbound services.
Between the entrance to the NCP car park and the pelican crossing I can only imagine there would be room for one westbound bus stop on Hall Ings so I can't imagine this would solve all of the problems. The other side of the NCP is the Hilton hotel and a layby but this is quite often used by visiting coaches for loading/unloading so don't know if that is an option.
The reported new bus stop and changes to the road permissions from Broadway would not be explained either, unless it is to enable the Free bus to do a loop closer to the new shopping centre, if it ever gets built!!!
It's also occured to me that the left turn from Bridge Street into Hall Ings doesn't seem to have a reason either.
Thanks for explaining the Sunbridge Road change, nice to see First Halifax buses right in the city centre, better photo opportunities for me.

You would have thought either Metro or First would have put information up on their websites about the route changes in the city centre. You get the feeling that a few people will get caught out by this.

I noticed yesterday that the second bus stop has now been added to Broadway so this only leaves the new bus canopy on Hall Ings to be completed. All of the roadworks on the leaflet below appear to be completed or nearing completion. www.bradford.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/84131BDC-2A85-4F95-9988-F196472D2258/0/cityParksept2009.pdfChanning Way will be closed off in June 2010 so it appears it may not be too much longer before the changes in Bradford bus routes will be upon us. Latest WYITA reports confirm that the allocation of bus routes to city centre stops will be made after the April 2010 timetable changes to avoid timetable clashes.

Looks like there won't be any bus stops outside the Sports shop so there will be no need for the left turn from Interchange Bridge St to Hall Ings.

Or that bus drivers don't need to know yet, and will be told when it actually happens.

The new road system around Bank Street/Broadway is open. However the bus routes that will operate on Bank St/Broadway will not alter until Channing Way is closed.

Lots of changes have shown up on VOSA today, with a date of 11th July. So this will be when the route changes occur and Channing Way is closed.

Does look like it, given that all the First changes listed are Bradford services: 570/571, 576, 610/611/612, 613/614, 615, 616, 636/637, 640/641, 645, 845 and 846
