Noticed in latest issue of Buses mag that the Government's Green Bus Fund is funding 22 buses for Leeds at a cost of £1.7 million including 6 double-deckers (Volvo B5TL parrallel hybrid's, similar to the Arriva London examples on the 141) for the Scott Hall guided busway. Presumably these are for the 71? This should lead to even more cascades of single deckers!

Delivery of Hybrids will commence in January 2011 according to First. Found out through Hybrid Transport Event in Leeds Millenium Square also shown was the all Electric Optare Solo.

I thought the plan was for the 1 to replace the arctics?
Or are first happy with the way hunslet are coping at the moment with the ALX400/Gemini B7TL on most of the routes that they operate?

When did the 1 ever come into the frame for where they would be used apart from people making suggestions. Hasn't it always been the intention that they were for the Scott Halls hence the demonstrator being used there?

Basically i'll summarise why they were withdrawn. An idiotic decision to design them with poor engine power plus an idiotic decision to buy them plus a number of drivers who want to get somewhere equals a dodgy expensive to run number of buses. First realised too late this problem, why haven't they demanded an engine upgrade in the ftr I wonder, we need angry b******s at First, bus designers need a kick up the arse at times!

The D7C engine is just fine in the ftr's, a lot better than the D9B engine

I seem to recall the FTR was once going to have a central driving position.
