Buses will operate this year on Boxing Day and New Year's Day in West Yorkshire
Half hourly frequencies will be operated on core corridors into Leeds and Huddersfield. No doubt the Overground routes mainly
Metro are funding the trial, and if successful they hope the operators will be able to operate the services commercially in future years
More details will obviously become known closer to Christmas

This an excellent idea. Don't think Taxi operators will be too pleased though!

It's about time that Leeds joined other large cities in having some Boxing Day buses. And Leeds will be ahead of the game in many other places by having a New Year's Day network. I hope it is well used, thus securing its future.

This is a great idea, hopefully the services will be well used.
Does anyone know how successful or not last years late night buses in Leeds around Christmas/New Years time were, and if they intend to repeat this?

More info now available on these services...
All routes will run every 30 minutes between approximately 9am and 6pm.
In Leeds *all* Overground routes will run along with the usual 2-hourly 757 Airport bus, plus Arriva will operate the 110 to Kettlethorpe, 202/203 to Huddersfield, 229 to Batley and 443/444 to Rothwell.
In Huddersfield buses will only run on Boxing Day (except the 202/203). Services running are 301, 306, 316, 324, 328, 352, 371/372, 503 and also the 363 or X6 to Brighouse only.
Fares will be charged at a bargain flat fare price of £2 adult or £1 child, which gives you all day unlimited travel! Plus an adult can take 1 child with them for free. Holders of Metrocards or operator season tickets can travel for free.

Hi
The 363 service will not be running on Boxing day. Instead the X6 will operate the whole route from Huddersfield to Leeds via Bradford.
It will not be opearted by First in Bradford as normal. First in Leeds and First in Huddersfiled will run the route which will make for an intresting days movements buses wise.
Plus its the only route that will be running through Bradford City Center.

Those links refer to Boxing Day only. Will it be the same on New Years Day too?

Also will these services be using the bus stations or will they use an alternative bus stop in the town/city centres. Well can see Leeds and Huddersfield been open. But no point in openning Bradford Interchange just for the X6.

I expect the X6 will use Hall Ings instead of the Interchange
I wonder if they will open Leeds CBS. The few services that are scheduled to run from there on Boxing Day could just as easilly use Eastgate or Vicar Lane

Well yes I suppose the 110, 202/3, 229 could use the stop outside the playhouse. While the X6, 33 and 96 can use their normal stop on Eastgate. The 757 will use New York Street rather than the Bus Station like it normally does on Boxing/New Years Day.

Further update... there will now be no special New Years Day bus services (presumably except the 757 which normally operates).

At least there will still be the trains running (and to a near normal weekday timetable)

Hi
Just been told today that First in Leeds, Bramley garage will be operating 2 Volvo Eclipse Gemini’s on the X6 on boxing day but with First Bradford Drivers. Meanwhile First in Huddersfield will supply the other buses that are required on the day again with First Bradford Drivers only.
A ballot draw for Drivers needed in Leeds on boxing day will be going around all the Leeds garages (Kirkstall, Bramley & Cherryrow) It’s a first come first served basis all accounts.

Not exactly, as First Bradford drivers know the route and stopping places on the route, Huddersfield and Bramley will be providing the buses as it is pointless Bradford opening their depot for only 6 buses! That means ancilliary staff been there as well which is unecessary costs!

There just doesn't seem much point running an express limited stop service, between main cities which will have a normal train service, and through Bradford where there will be no other buses to connect with??
Surely "because alot of first bradford drivers are asian thats why .." is a rather generalised and unnecessary remark to make...

On the same point, it'll be interesting to see if First Leeds and Arriva open more than one depot
It depends what price First have got Metro to agree to pay them. It'd be a better use of Metro's budget if First Leeds only opened one depot and the price was based on this
First Huddersfield's part of the X6 will no doubt be the '363' branded Geminis, which will be interesting

Well Arriva are doing 110, 202/3, 209/229 so opening Dewsbury would seem the best option as it is central and using the respective depot drivers for the routes.
